Bulut returning to the Wanderers for the fans

Kerem Bulut has jumped at the chance to reignite his love affair with Western Sydney Wanderers and their fans by agreeing a two-year deal to return to Wanderland.

The charismatic striker, who became a cult hero during his six-goal, 13-game Wanderers stint last year, rejected offers from the Korea Republic, Japan and Denmark to renew his acquaintance with coach Tony Popovic, whom he credits as a career inspiration.
It’s understood that Bulut will be back in his home town in the coming week to complete the deal, having gained a release from Greek club Iraklis with a year to run on his contract after becoming frustrated by the late payment of wages and being forced to play out of position as a winger.

The 23-year-old, who will deployed as a No.9 by last season's beaten grand finalists, couldn’t hide his glee at the prospect of returning to his western Sydney roots.

“One of the main reasons I am coming back is the fans … I am so much loved by them and I love them back," he told The World Game from Turkey.

“It it’s important for a player to have that emotional connection with the supporters, it’s a feeling that’s hard to express.

“It’s a great relationship and I’m excited by the thought of playing in front of them again... I feed off that that support.”
Bulut, a willing Popovic protégé in the past, believes the coach he holds in huge esteem can help him take his game to the next level.

“I have a lot of admiration for Poppa, he knows how to get the best out of me and I am excited to be going back to a club where I am wanted, loved and can be relaxed," he added.

“I have missed that feeling. I am hoping Poppa help me become a great player and reach my full potential.

"I feel I have so much potential but I need the right person to guide me, and Poppa is the perfect coach to do it, at the perfect club.”
Bulut is also fuelled by the scent of success at a club chasing trophies on multiple fronts, with the FFA Cup, A-League premiership-championship and AFC Champions League.

“I am hungry for success, and to win trophies. That’s why I am coming back also," he said.

"I want to win the league, the Asia Champions League and to score as many goals as I can to help the team. I am coming back to a club with big ambitions.

"It’s a big year ahead, if I have a good season and score some goals you never know what can happen.

“Once I'd spoken to Poppa I knew immediately it was the right place for me to go.

“We had a good chat and we talked about the project for the Wanderers and I told him that at this stage of my career I just wanted to be back somewhere playing, somewhere where I am known and can be happy.

“I will play No 9 … that’s my position. I had few offers to go elsewhere but was waiting on Wanderers and when they came for me I didn’t hesitate."
