Ecuador clinched second place behind Germany in Group E at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico thanks to a 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso.

Jose Cevallos broke the deadlock in the 74th minute when he fired a free-kick past Burkina Faso goalkeeper Seni Ouedraogo, and within two minutes Kevin Mercado doubled the lead to secure all three points.

Germany finished on top with nine points and will take on the USA in the round of 16, while Ecuador's reward for finishing second will be a clash with the top team in Group F. Panama also qualified from Group E as one of the best third-place finishers.

African champion Burkina Faso, meanwhile, heads home after losing all three of its group games, failing to score in the process.
