The two-time Premier League winner is currently without a club after being released by West Ham in May and according to a Newscorp report, United feel Nasri is the perfect big name signing to compliment their squad this season.
But they could be in for a battle to secure his signature with the former France international also linked with Premier League side Crystal Palace as well as a number of other overseas suitors.
It is believed Nasri has expressed an interest in a possible move to Australia this off-season with Western United bosses impressed by Nasri's knowledge of the A-League.
However, the Marseille youth product is said to have an asking price in excess of A$4 million a year and the club have conceded they won't be able to clinch the deal without the assistance of the FFA's marquee fund.
At 31-years of age, Nasri could still have plenty in the tank as the attacking midfielder has only played nine professional matches in the past 18 months due to a doping ban.
Nasri has the potential to excel in Australia with his brilliant skill on the ball and ability to create sure to excite fans.
If Western United are to get the deal done it would be a major coup for the burgeoning side as they look to carve their place alongside established local rivals Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City.
