Troisi set to join fellow Aussies in China

Socceroo James Troisi has been approached by ambitious Lioning Whowon as they seek to make the in-demand attacker the latest in a flurry of Aussies to head to the Chinese Super League during the January transfer window.

Just seven days after snaring former Perth Glory defender Michael Thwaite on a two-year deal, Lioning is determined to add Troisi to their roster as part of a planned push for an AFC Champions League spot in the coming season, with a formal offer tabled to Troisi's representatives over the weekend.

A free agent after severing ties with Saudi side Al-Ittihad this month, the 27-year-old is believed to have jetted to China to discuss terms with an unnamed club, believed to be Lioning, who finished in mid-table last season.

However, Troisi, who parted company with Juventus in August without ever playing a game for the Italian powerhouse, is spoiled for choice with two other Chinese Super League clubs also keen to snap him up.

There is also strong interest from the Middle East and the MLS, with Troisi keen to settle his future promptly as he seeks to add some continuity in a career which saw him loaned out to Melbourne Victory and Belgium side Zulte Waregem before his short-lived stint at Al-Ittihad, where he left in a dispute over unpaid wages.

Four A-League clubs, headed by his hometown team of Adelaide United, have all made entreaties to Troisi, whose preference has been to remain offshore in the immediate future.

With Tim Cahill alreday flying high at Shanghai Shenhua, former Socceroo Thwaite, and current Australia internationals Ryan McGowan (Henan Jianye) and Trent Sainsbury (Jianing Suning) have all signed lucrative deals.
