Sydney FC finished its six-game tour of Italy by going down to a 6-5 penalty shootout defeat to Reggiana after the teams had been locked at 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Two early goals had Reggiana up 2-0 at the break, but Sydney - missing Alessandro Del Piero through injury - hit back to level things.

Corey Gameiro got the A-League side back into the contest after being set up by substitute Josh MacDonald, and Nick Carle grabbed his side's second from the penalty spot after Gameiro had been brought down.

With the game finishing all square it went to penalties, where Reggiana edged it.
