How the Australia players fared in Tuesday night's 2-0 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying win over the UAE.
Socceroos player ratings
Mat Ryan 8 - Quick on his feet and customarily strong distribution, scrambled to pull off an extraordinary block save to stop an Omar Abdulrahman free-kick. Calm in hair situations.
Milos Degenek 6 - Got back well but was caught out of position more than once, often stretched between centre-back and full-back duties in a three-man backline.
Brad Smith 5 - Apart from one scintillating run to set up Milligan did not impose himself and was often ignored on the left flank despite being in space. First touch and final pass too often poor.
Mark Milligan 7 - Deployed in his preferred midfield role and played through well despite the bobbly pitch. Had a gilt-edged chance but shot straight at the keeper.
Mathew Leckie 8 - Lacked the creativity to match his searing pace, but offset it all with a couple of superb turns and an even better second goal - a header to mirror his effort in Tehran.
Bailey Wright 6 - Fouled Abdulrahman in a perfect spot for Asia's best player to fire a fierce free-kick. Blushes saved by Mat Ryan.
Tomi Juric 5.5 - In the action but struggled to get onto the pointy end of attacks and copped a lot of attention from UAE's defence. At times dropped too deep.
James Troisi 8 - A hive of industry and energy, sharp in the attacking midfield role and delivered the corners for both goals. Conceded a few turnovers and twice shot well over the bar under little pressure.
Mile Jedinak 6 - Busy night for the skipper, though he was off the pace and a little dodgy on ball distribution.
Trent Sainsbury 7 - Won the aerial contest where Australia struggled against Iraq, yet the occasional lapse led to dangerous moments.
Jackson Irvine 8 - Responsible for a sorely needed early breakthrough, heading home the opener from Troisi's corner to put Australia 1-0 up. Right in there for every set piece.
Tim Cahill 5 - Attempted an audacious volley but could not get any purchase on his effort.
Robbie Kruse N/A - Bit-part player on his 50th international appearance.
Mustafa Amini N/A - Will have enjoyed his first five minutes of international action.
