Socceroos player ratings against Hungary

Mat Ryan proved why he could be the Socceroos' key man while captain Mile Jedinak was needed to steady the team in their 2-1 defeat of Hungary in Budapest.

Player ratings for the Socceroos v Hungary:

Mat Ryan - 8. A stunning one-on-one save after half an hour showed why he could be Australia's key asset in Russia.

Josh Risdon - 6. Got away with being skinned a couple of times but battled back into the game.

Mark Milligan - 5. Too casual with distribution, forcing a couple of hairy moments at the back.

Trent Sainsbury - 6. A costly lack of communication with Brad Jones gifted Hungary a goal but was strong aerially.

Aziz Behich - 7. Worked hard and largely sharp in passing even if his crosses didn't find their man.

Aaron Mooy - 6. An off day for the midfielder. Too often his passes didn't hit the mark.

Massimo Luongo - 6. A goal-line clearance was Luongo's best contribution before making way for Jedinak.

Mat Leckie - 7. Frustrated and preoccupied with his marker but at least persisted.

Tom Rogic - 7. Nowhere to be seen for the first half but then came alive. More of the latter is required.

Robbie Kruse - 7. Prolific but couldn't make Hungary pay. Needs to find his radar before Russia.

Andrew Nabbout - 6. Industrious but couldn't generate a chance as he did against the Czechs.

Substitutes

Mile Jedinak (45th min for Luongo) - 7. Steadied the Socceroos ship and was full of bright touches. His composure will be vital in Kazan.

Tomi Juric (45th min for Nabbout) - 5. Just 25 minutes and seven touches for the striker. Seems an unlikely starter against France.

Brad Jones (45th min for Ryan) - 4. Flapped at a regulation corner and then played his part in the own goal. A shocker.

Jackson Irvine (64th min for Rogic) - 8. Could be a genuine weapon in Russia. His hard-running style could shake up defences late in games.

Daniel Arzani (74th minute for Kruse) - 9. Bought a ticket, won the raffle. What a weight off the teen's mind ahead of a maiden FIFA World Cup.

Tim Cahill (80th min for Juric) - 6. More fouls than sights on goal but threw himself about in typical fashion.
