Police are searching for three robbers who broke into the home of Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz and allegedly held a knife to the throat of his wife before stealing jewellery.
Greater Manchester Police said the men forced open the front door, before one of them held a knife to the throat of 24-year-old Giselle Santa Cruz, demanding valuables.
Two young children and a man were in the house during the robbery, which took place on Saturday evening (Sunday morning AEDT). They were forced into a downstairs room while the robbers searched the house upstairs along with the Paraguayan striker's wife.
Although Giselle Santa Cruz was not injured, police said she had been left highly distressed by the incident.
"This woman has been left traumatised by what happened to her and the levels of aggression that the offenders used," detective constable Dan Hayes said.
