Ruon Tongyik swaps Reds for Melbourne City

Melbourne City have once again turned to Adelaide United for A-League talent, signing young defender Ruon Tongyik from the A-League champions.

Tongyik, 19, joins on a two-year deal after winning the best-and-fairest award for the club's National Youth League side last season.

City have described the Sudanese-raised teenager as a physical centre-back able to play anywhere along the back line or in defensive midfield.

Tongyik is one of four United old boys to move to City in the past two years, joining Osama Malik, Jacob Melling and Bruce Kamau.

For its part, Adelaide will also have a strong City flavour in their squad as they attempt to defend their championship.

City alumni and A-League winners Michael Marrone, Mate Dugandzic and Stefan Mauk will be joined by Ben Garuccio and Marc Marino after the South Australians were released by the John van `t Schip-coached club in the off-season.

Tongyik joins Manny Muscat, Daniel Arzani, Luke Brattan and Kamau as new faces at the City Football Academy.
