Wayne Rooney scored an incredible long-range free-kick to seal DC United a 1-0 win over Toronto FC in the MLS on Thursday (AEDT).
Rooney bent a special free-kick just inside the post from 35 yards out in the 18th minute to give his side the perfect start.
It was his 10th goal in 18 MLS matches, to go with the former Manchester United star's six assists.
DC United goalkeeper Bill Hamid also starred in the win and has allowed just conceded one goal, and has three of his four shutouts this season in the last four games.
The Washington club have now won four games in a row and are unbeaten in their last eight.
They have a four-point lead over Montreal for the sixth and final play-off spot in the Eastern Conference with two games remaining.
Toronto FC, who were eliminated from play-off contention with a loss to Vancouver on October 6, have now lost three of their last four games.
