Palermo still keen on Alvarez

Palermo has not given up hope of signing Arsenal target Ricardo Alvarez but knows it faces stiff competition to acquire the Argentina star.

Arsenal is leading the race to sign the 23-year-old attacking midfielder from Velez Sarsfield this northern summer but Palermo, Malaga, Inter Milan, Roma and Sevilla are also keen to acquire the 23-year-old's services.

"We are very interested in Alvarez," Zamparini told Corriere dello Sport.

"But it will be difficult to bring him to Palermo considering that there are other clubs like Arsenal and Malaga interested in him."

Alvarez holds an Italian passport and is valued by the Clausura champion at 12 million euros ($16.16 million).
