A story published on the website of New Zealand Football suggested the CEO had resigned, but the story was false and the website allegedly hacked.
New Zealand Football are looking into a potential hack of their website involving a false story about their chief executive.
An article appeared on the governing body's website on Friday afternoon with the headline, "Andy Martin resigns as CEO".
The article said the resignation was effective immediately, according to a screenshot published by Fairfax.
NZ Football quickly took to social media to confirm the news was not true.
"We would like to confirm that CEO Andy Martin has not resigned. We are looking into a potential hack of our website," NZ Football tweeted.
The article was taken down from the website.
