Newscorp report the rising star is on the Central Coast this week on trial with the Mariners and targeting an A-League contract.
The 22-year-old has been a breakout star in the NPL Queensland competition with a record 36 goals, 46 in all competitions, including a jaw-dropping nine-goal haul in one match against Sunshine Coast.
He also scored in the FFA Cup round of 32 last Wednesday as the Strikers knocked out A-League side Wellington Phoenix.
“Every young player would love to play in the A-League so that is definitely something I am working towards,” Pengelly told The World Game last week.
“I talk with Dylan (Wenzell-Halls, who graduated from NPLQ to Brisbane Roar) all the time and he has been giving me advice on how to get the most out of my game.
"Seeing his successes and being able to talk to him about that sort of thing has been a huge motivator for me to reach those heights myself.
“We have a really good squad this season and I have them to thank for my successes this season.
