Nocerina defender Marco Pomante collapsed during an Italian second division match before recovering in hospital, just a week after Livorno's Piermario Morosini died during another Serie B game.
Many fans feared the worst as Pomante fell to the ground in the fixture against Reggina with no other player around him.
After treatment, he was carried off on a stretcher and taken to hospital but by that point he was conscious, according to reports.
Italian media said he had suffered whiplash in an earlier clash when he was struck in the neck.
Nocerina spokesman Giuseppe Sicignano said the player was recovering.
"When he fell to the ground we were worried but then we understood that it wasn't serious," he told the Ansa news agency.
"Now he's at hospital for tests but he's conscious and he's well."
