Hoole told TWG:

About his world travels - and also his adventures in Concord

Why going to the Olympic Games would be a dream come true

What the best advice is anyone has given him

Which star of world football is his favourite player

Where he would love to play overseas

What Sydney FC fans can expect from him this season
TWG: You've gone from Newcastle to Sydney. Is this your first time living away from the family home?

AH: Yeah, first time, so didn't know what to expect, really, not having lived away from home before. But so far it has been good.

TWG: Where are you set up in Sydney and are you living with teammates or what?

AH: Yeah, I'm living with Brandon O'Neill and Riley Woodcock, the two guys from Perth. We're in a three-bedroom apartment at Concord, so pretty close to training. It takes us about 15 minutes to get there, so not too bad. It's pretty central, only about 20 minutes away from the city as well.

TWG: Your new coach, Graham Arnold, is a massive INXS fan. When you were still playing for Newcastle last season and had a home game against Sydney did you spy him on the big screen when he was caught singing along to the Jets' pre-match song, Never Tear Us Apart?

AH: No, I didn't know about that, I didn't see it. INXS are a bit before my time, to be honest (laughs).

TWG: What sort of music do you like?

AH: More house music. House, progressive, electro, I'm into that that sort of stuff. I like a lot of different DJs.

TWG: Have you found some places in Sydney that you really like, whether it's to go for a coffee or have a walk around or whatever?

AH: Oh, Sydney is so big I couldn't put my finger on any one thing at the moment. I'm still getting used to what the best places are and things like that. But in Concord there are a few good coffee shops and I found a good Italian joint the other night for dinner.

TWG: What about travel? You've been to a few different countries with age representative teams. What are the most interesting places you've been to?

AH: The last place I went to was Turkey and that was quite good. I was in Istanbul, which is very busy, about 15 million people in the one city. I went to Macedonia, very old place, a lot of history there. Where else have I been . . . A while back I went to Cyprus, that was different. Been to Japan as well.

TWG: Where would you like to go that you haven't been, whether it's for football or just to visit?

AH: I'd love to go to Brazil - Rio, in particular, for the Olympics next year. We've got qualifiers with the Olyroos coming up in January, so really hoping to do well in those.

TWG: Do you dare to dream of making it to the Olympics?

AH: Yeah, it would be massive. I think, as a young player, that is one of your dreams, to play in the Olympics. Such a massive football tournament and everyone stops to watch, so it would be great to be there. We've got to do a job in January and make sure we get there.

TWG: Obviously one of the great footballing countries and with a bunch of new stadiums built for last year's World Cup. It would be quite an experience.

AH: Yeah, that's right, the facilities would be immaculate and I think in the competition you're allowed three over-age players, so we might play against some of the really big names in football. Apparently Neymar wants to play for Brazil there, so that would be great if we could qualify and come up against some great players like him.

TWG: You're off to Korea Republic next, for a couple of practice matches with the Olyroos. It's important to get that time on the field together, as a team.

AH: We leave on October 4 and I think we're back on the 12th, so we'll miss the first round of the A-League and be back for the second round. It's a bummer to miss the start of the A-League, but looking forward to the Olyroos games because every opportunity for us to play together is valuable.

TWG: Who is the life of the party at Sydney FC?

AH: Oh, who knows? Too hard to tell yet. We'll wait and see who comes out of the bunch.

TWG: Who are your favourite footballers around the world?

AH: It was Steven Gerrard and probably still is. Obviously you don't see much of him in action anymore, because he has moved to the US, but when he was at Liverpool he was unbelievable. So probably Gerrard, and I was also a big fan of Ronaldinho at his best.

TWG: What's the best advice you've received, whether it's to do with football or life, or both?

AH: I've been told by a few people who have played football at high levels that when things aren't going so great you've just got to keep working hard. That's the main thing in life, to work hard, and if you do that you get good outcomes.

TWG: If you could go anywhere in the world to do anything you want, with it all laid on, where would you go and what would you do?

AH: The country I would most like to see is Brazil and as far as football goes I'd love to go and play Premier League in England. It's my favourite league - it's unbelievable. I watch a lot of it on TV. I follow Liverpool. We haven't gone great early in the season, but I'll stick with them.

TWG: So would that be your ultimate ambition, to play for Liverpool?

AH: Oh, I don't know about play for Liverpool, it's a big ask. If you work hard you never know, but just to play in that league would be great. That's one thing I'd love to do before I finish my career.

TWG: You turned 21 soon after last season's A-League had kicked off. I guess you had to hold off on a party, because of football, but did you get around to a celebration at some stage?

AH: Oh, not so much a party. Spent time with the family and that sort of thing. It's a bit difficult with football, you have to make a few sacrifices, but that's OK. I had a bit of a celebration with the family.

TWG: Finally, what can Sydney FC expect from you this season?

AH: They can expect a hard-working player with some qualities that will be good for the team. I think I bring a lot to the table and hopefully we can go one step further as a team than last year and win the grand final. Just a hard-working player who loves to win games and will add to the quality that is already there in the team.
