Speaking to Macquarie Sports Radio on Sunday morning, Mielekamp explained that the decision was made a couple of hours after the devastating loss, which took place in front of a record low crowd of 3,703 people at Central Coast Stadium.
“After the match, the board members got to together to discuss the options moving forward and made the decision to meet with Mike Mulvey and part ways immediately," Mielekamp said.
"It was decided rather than wait and let speculation happen during the night, to make the announcement immediately."
Central Coast has fired their previous three managers, with Phil Moss and Paul Okon also getting the sack in March.
Moss took legal action against the club for wrongful dismissal, receiving $500,000 in damages after getting sacked seven months into a three-year contract.
Mielekamp maintained the club has long term goals to ensure success on and off the pitch moving forward.
"We are in a changing process at the moment with new board members and new structures with a long term view to increase the revenues and resources for the club, and that needs to happen so that we can keep competitive as we move forward.
"We do need to make sure that right now for the remaining rounds of the season that we get some positivity out of the season, and I’m sure that everyone at the club will be working to get things right."
Mariners have won only one match this season, a 2-1 victory over Melbourne City in January and are all but guaranteed to take the wooden spoon for the second year in a row.
