    Timeline

    • KICK OFF
    • EXTRA TIME
    • 45'
The referee blows his whistle for half time.
    • 90'
THERE IT IS! The referee blows his whistle and Arsenal are through!
    • HALF TIME
    • 45'
JUST WIDE! A loose pass from Ramsey on the edge of the Spurs penalty area sees the hosts launch a counter attack, which leads to Kane firing narrowly off target with a drilled left-footed effort.
    • 90'
It is looking increasingly unlikely, however, as Spurs are severely lacking the cutting edge. Arsenal are very solid at the back and they are almost in the bag for the fourth round draw.
    • 0'
That's all for this evening. I've been Jonathan Davies - thank you for following the LIVE action of the League Cup, hope you enjoyed it. Until next time, have a very good evening!
    • 0'
Mathieu Flamini was the unlikely the hero as his two goals - the second a cracking volley - proved to be the difference as Arsenal edged past Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby.
    • 0'
FULL TIME: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 1-2 ARSENAL
    • 0'
The teams are coming back out onto the field and the second half is about to commence.
    • 0'
There is plenty of quality on the bench for both sides. Spurs may look to use Son in their search of an equaliser, while Arsenal still have the likes of Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez up their sleeve.
    • 0'
Mathieu Flamini's goal is the difference between the sides at the break. Neither of them have been overly threatening and will be looking to offer a lot more after the break.
    • 0'
      HALF TIME: TOTTENHAM 0-1 ARSENAL
    • 0'
The teams are coming out onto the field and kick is just moments away.
    • 0'
ARSENAL SUBS: Macey, Ozil, Walcott, Sanchez, Monreal, Bellerin, Iwobi.
    • 0'
ARSENAL (4-2-3-1): Ospina; Debuchy, Mertesacker, Chambers, Gibbs; Flamini, Arteta (c); Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ramsey, Campbell; Giroud.
    • 0'
Arsene Wenger also rings the changes from his side's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime. Aaron Ramsey is the sole survivor, while there is a rare start for Costa Rican Joel Campbell.
    • 0'
TOTTENHAM SUBS: Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Son, N'Jie, Alli, Winks.
    • 0'
TOTTENHAM (4-2-3-1): Vorm; Trippier, Fazio, Wimmer, Rose; Dier, Carroll; Townsend, Eriksen, Chadli; Kane (c).
    • 0'
Mauricio Pochettino makes eight changes from the victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday. Only Eric Dier, Nacer Chadli and Harry Kane survive, while the in-form Son Heung-min is on the bench.
    • 0'
Both sides enter the competition at this stage having been in European action during the previous round. These are two of the stronger teams in the competition, but one will be out by the end of the night.
    • 0'
GOOD EVENING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! This is Jonathan Davies welcoming you to LIVE text commentary of the League Cup. We're at White Hart Lane for a big North London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
    • 1'
KICK OFF! Spurs get us underway kicking from right to left.
    • 3'
This is the 189th North London derby overall. Arsenal edge the head-to-head record with 79 wins to Spurs' 61, including three of the last five meetings.
    • 5'
Spurs patiently build up to the Arsenal area where Townsend looks to work some space for himself. The ball eventually comes to Chadli, whose cross is headed away by the Gunners.
    • 7'
Kane gets his first sniff of the ball as he receives a long pass to feet. It is short-lived, though, as the linesman raises his flag on the far side. He is looking for his first goal of the season, having bagged 31 last term.
    • 9'
Neither side have been particularly on top inside these opening nine minutes. Everything is a little disjointed at the moment, with both teams still settling into their rhythm.
    • 11'
The sides met at this stage of the competition back in 2010. The scores well level at 1-1 after 90 minutes, before Arsenal ran riot in extra time for a 4-1 victory. Kieran Gibbs is the only player from that game among tonight's starting line-ups.
    • 13'
CHANCE FOR ARSENAL! The left-back is involved here as he breaks the offside trap before crossing for Giroud, who cannot make a clean contact with the ball. Campbell backs him up but is unable to keep his header down.
    • 15'
ALMOST FOR SPURS! Townsend cuts back onto his left foot and tries to drift a ball over the top of the defence for Kane, but Chambers adjusts himself brilliantly to head it to safety.
    • 17'
Things have definitely picked up over the last few minutes. The game has a lot more flow to it as the teams have started to settle down and play their own natural games.
    • 19'
Some great persistence from Rose sees him keep the ball in play and deliver a deep cross to the far post. It takes an awkward bounce before going out for a corner off Gibbs. Nothing comes of it, though, as Arsenal easily deal with the situation.
    • 21'
The Spurs fans are on their feet in anticipation as Chadli is released into the space down the left flank. Their joy is short-lived, however, as he is flagged offside by the assistant.
    • 23'
We are still waiting for our first clear-cut opportunity of the game as we enter the midway point of the first half. Both sides have enjoyed possession but are yet to trouble the goalkeepers.
    • 26'
ARSENAL LEAD!!! Some space opens up for Oxlade-Chamberlain, who lets fly with a vicious effort from 20 yards. Vorm can only parry and Flamini is on hand to fire the rebound into the roof of the net.
    • 28'
White Hart Lane has become very subdued all of a sudden. That all came from Oxlade-Chamberlain's vicious effort, but there was nothing more that Vorm could have done in all fairness.
    • 30'
Cries of frustration ring around the stadium as Chadli wastes a decent opportunity by misplacing a simple pass to Carroll, before Townsend is penalised for fouling Campbell.
    • 31'
CLOSE FOR SPURS! Kane leads the charge for the hosts before feeding Rose, who cuts inside onto his unfavoured right foot and pulls his shot just wide of the target.
    • 32'
Rose gets involved again as a good touch out of his body takes him beyond Debuchy and into the box, but Ospina is out quickly to narrow the angle and is awarded a goal kick.
    • 33'
Arteta goes into the referee's book.
    • 34'
That was more threatening from Spurs but they need to do that a lot more if they are to get back into this game. Arsenal are looking fairly solid defensively at the moment.
    • 36'
Vorm is far from convincing as he comes out to meet a deep Arsenal corner and flaps at the ball. It is just about enough on this occasion, though, and Spurs are able to clear.
    • 37'
      M. Flamini is yellow-carded.
    • 38'
Flamini picks up a cheap booking after jumping into Rose in an aerial challenge. Arsenal now have both holding midfielders on a yellow card with more than half of the game to play.
    • 39'
JUST NEEDED A FINISH! Oxlade-Chamberlain bursts forward for Arsenal and shows good feet to get into the box. He opens his body and shoots, but cannot direct his bending effort into the far corner.
    • 40'
      M. Debuchy receives a yellow card.
    • 41'
Spurs are awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area on the left hand side following Debuchy's foul. Eriksen's free kick is well dealt with, though, before Rose's follow-up cross runs behind for a goal kick.
    • 43'
The hosts could do with finding an equaliser before the break. It would make Pochettino's team talk a whole lot easier and give the home fans hope going into the second half.
    • 44'
CHANCE! Spurs work the ball into the box and it drops to Kane on his chest, but he cannot control and sort his feet out quickly enough and Arsenal are able to clear.
    • 45'
TWO MINUTES! The fourth official indicates that that is how long extra we will have at the end of this first half.
    • 46'
KICK OFF! Arsenal get things back underway.
    • 49'
KANE SCORES! BUT IT WON'T COUNT... Spurs come forward with Chadli laying off Eriksen, whose shot is tipped onto the post by Ospina and Kane is on hand to fire in the rebound. He is denied, however, by the offside flag.
    • 51'
It has been a bright start to the second half by Spurs. They have offered a lot more since the interval and you feel that the equaliser is not too far away if they keep this up.
    • 53'
Townsend tries his luck with a right-footed effort from the edge of the penalty area. There is no power in it, though, and Ospina is easily able to get down and smother the ball.
    • 55'
This is all very good pressure from Spurs. They came from behind to win 2-1 in the previous meeting between the sides back in February and they will look to draw inspiration from that here.
    • 56'
SPURS ARE LEVEL!!! Persistence pays off for the hosts as Chambers puts through his own net. Chadli delivered a cross that he had no choice but to go for and only succeeded in directing past Ospina. Game on!
    • 58'
While Arsenal's goal silenced the Spurs fans, that own goal has just raised the noise levels around White Hart Lane. They need to make the most of this while they are in the ascendency.
    • 60'
Arsenal have a corner in a rare moment on the ball in this second half. However, they waste the opportunity by over-hitting the delivery and it goes out for a throw-in.
    • 62'
There have been some memorable meetings here between these two sides in this competition. Who could forget the consecutive semi-final clashes in 2007 and 2008 respectively? The latter saw Spurs trounce their bitter rivals 5-1.
    • 64'
Son is getting stripped off and looks set to be thrown into the action by Pochettino. It will be interesting to see whether he replaces or partners Kane up front.
    • 65'
OFF THE LINE! A deep corner reaches Kane at the far post and he tries a spectacular scissor-kick which beats Ospina, but Gibbs is in the right place at the right time to head away to safety.
    • 67'
Heung-Min Son enters the game and replaces A. Townsend.
    • 67'
      J. Campbell is replaced with A. Sánchez.
    • 67'
Townsend is the player who will make way for Spurs to accommodate Son, while Arsenal opt for an attacking change of their own with Sanchez coming on in place of Campbell.
    • 68'
Ramsey races into space on the counter attack for Arsenal before trying his luck with a drilled effort, which goes wide of the post and does not cause Vorm any problems.
    • 71'
GOOD GOALKEEPING! Some neat play from Arsenal sees Ramsey thread the ball through for Giroud, but Vorm is quickly out to prevent him from getting a sniff at goal.
    • 72'
NERVY FROM OSPINA! The Arsenal keeper comes to collect a corner, but spills the ball back towards his goal and just about recovers in time to spare his blushes.
    • 74'
PENALTY? Ramsey floats a cross in towards Sanchez, who goes down under a challenge from Wimmer. The referee is not interested in any appeals for a penalty, though.
    • 75'
      D. Alli enters the game and replaces N. Chadli.
    • 76'
      D. Alli receives a yellow card.
    • 76'
Alli looks to get involved immediately by diving into a challenge on Mertesacker, for which he is rightly shown a yellow card. He was just a little too eager to impress on that occasion.
    • 78'
HE'S DONE IT AGAIN - WHAT A GOAL! Sanchez's attempted pass deflects high into the air and Flamini watches it all the way, before sending a well-controlled volley whistling into the corner beyond the dive of Vorm.
    • 80'
That was a bolt from the blue by Flamini, who last played in this competition against Spurs back in 2008. It could well be the winner for Arsenal unless the hosts can come from behind again.
    • 82'
Last year's finalists need to respond quickly otherwise they will be heading out of the competition. They have been made to pay for not taking advantage when they were on top, but still have time to do something about it.
    • 84'
NOT TOO FAR AWAY! Arsenal go on the counter attack with Ramsey leading the charge. He finds Oxlade-Chamberlain, who lets fly with a drilled effort which flashes just wide of the far post.
    • 85'
      E. Dier is done for the day. C. N'Jie is his replacement.
    • 87'
Spurs gradually build with the ball up to the Arsenal area, before Alli lets fly after being layed off by Kane. There is no power in the shot, though, and Ospina comfortably collects.
    • 88'
Debuchy has a go on the counter for Arsenal. He lets fly with plenty of power behind his shot and Vorm has to get down well to prevent a third Arsenal goal which would have killed the tie.
    • 89'
      T. Walcott enters play, replacing A. Oxlade-Chamberlain.
    • 90'
THREE MINUTES! That is how long Spurs have to find an equaliser.
