What a double substitution from Steve McClaren. Aleksandar Mitrovic cancelled out Eric Dier's first-half effort two minutes after coming on, before Ayoze Perez struck the winner deep into stoppage-time to lift the Toon Army out of the relegation zone. Spurs' 14-match unbeaten run comes to an abrupt

Newcastle need to severely up their performance levels if they are to get anything out of this second half. They must at least gain a foothold in the contest after the break.
    • 0'
Spurs are looking very good value for their lead at the break. They have been very dominant in the first half and will be looking to keep that up after the break.

Spirits were lifted for Newcastle when they stunned Liverpool 2-0 last Sunday. There are no real surprises that Steve McClaren names the same 11 for today's game as the Toon Army search for a third straight victory at White Hart Lane.

Mauricio Pochettino rested key players for the Europa League win over Monaco on Thursday. However, he reverts back to 10 of the players that started the draw with West Bromwich Albion. Tom Carroll scored in that 4-1 victory over the Ligue 1 side and is given a start ahead of Mousa Dembele.
    • 0'
A win would be very beneficial for both sides today. Spurs can move above Manchester United and into the top four with a victory, while three points will see Newcastle could climb out of the relegation zone.

Good afternoon and welcome to LIVE text commentary of the Barclays Premier League. We're at White Hart Lane today as Tottenham Hotspur face Newcastle United.
    • 1'
KICK OFF! The referee blows the whistle and Newcastle get the match underway.
    • 1'
The way the opening 20 minutes have gone so far was just epitomised in that play. Newcastle were keeping the ball nicely inside the Spurs' half, but strong pressure from the hosts forced Wijnaldum to pass it all the way back to his side's own penalty area!
    • 2'
Spurs go straight onto the attack with Kane working space for himself to shoot. His effort is creeping inside the near post, but Elliot gets down well to save.
    • 4'
GET OUT THE WAY! Newcastle launch a promising counter attack and De Jong gets his shot away. He catches it really sweetly and looks like it might nestle in the top corner, but Cisse gets in the way as the ball hits him in the face and runs to safety. He was in an offside position, too, much to the D
    • 6'
Those were good signs for the visitors. They will fancy their chances here having won on their last two visits, but it will be difficult against a strong Spurs side.
    • 8'
Rose bombs forward down the left flank to latch onto Eriksen's through ball, but puts far too much power into his cross and sees it fly over the defence and out for a throw-in. He appeared to get too excited at the vital moment.
    • 10'
Spurs have made the stronger start of the two sides. They are looking a lot quicker and sharper on the ball and getting forward regularly, while Newcastle appear to be quite sluggish at the moment.
    • 12'
GOOD DEFENDING! Alderweireld plays a delicious diagonal ball over the Newcastle defence that Alli latches onto. Janmaat reads the situation very well, however, and makes a vital interception for his side.
    • 14'
There is a slight break in play as Rose receives attention after appearing to overstretch when he tried to retrieve possession. Spurs are looking very dangerous at the moment, but can Newcastle weather the storm?
    • 16'
Newcastle just cannot keep hold of the ball at the moment. After being pinned inside their own half for as long as they have been, they need to make more of their possession and try to gain a foothold in the contest.
    • 18'
There is a long way to go yet but Spurs are looking strong and, if they can avoid defeat this afternoon, then they would equal their longest unbeaten run in the top-flight of 14 games.
    • 20'
Newcastle enjoy a neat spell of possession inside the Spurs half, including some nice link-up play between Dummett and Wijnaldum. However, good pressure from the hosts forces the Dutch international to play the ball all the way to his own penalty area.
    • 22'
There is another break in play as Walker receives attention from the physios after coming off worse in a 50-50 challenge with Dummett. The Spurs players are unhappy, but there was nothing wrong with the tackle - his intention was clearly to win the ball.
    • 24'
Newcastle need to force their way into this game if they are to make it back-to-back wins. Ironically, the last time they achieved that feat was here last season when they came from 1-0 down to record a 2-1 victory.
    • 26'
Spurs are awarded a free kick near the touchline and send both centre-halves forward as Eriksen stands over the ball. His delivery is very disappointing, however, and Newcastle are able to clear.
    • 28'
The hosts continue to dominate in possession, but they need to start causing more problems in the final third. Newcastle have looked vulnerable in defence this season, so Spurs should exploit that more.
    • 30'
Colback is the first player to have his name taken this afternoon for a rash challenge on Walker. That is the sixth booking he has picked up in his last eight games.
    • 32'
Newcastle look to hit Spurs on the counter with Sissoko looking for a clever through ball. Dier clears the ball straight to De Jong, but the Dutchman was not expecting it and cannot react quickly enough. Spurs are able to deal with the situation at the second attempt.
    • 34'
The visitors are looking better at the moment and there is a lot more purpose in their play. They just had half a chance with Cisse winning a header in the box, but could not direct the ball towards the target. There are positive signs for McClaren.
    • 36'
GOOD SAVE! Rose and Carroll play a very crisp one-two with the former pulling the ball to the edge of the area for Lamela, whose sweeping effort is heading for the far corner before Elliot springs across to push it away.
    • 38'
GREAT SAVE! Kane flicks a high ball into the stride of Lamela, whose volley is somehow tipped over the bar by Elliot. Spurs are getting closer, you feel.
    • 39'
      G E. Dier Assist C. Eriksen
    • 39'
Eriksen provided a very inviting delivery for Dier to attack.
    • 39'
DIER GIVES SPURS THE LEAD!!! From the resulting corner, Dier arrives at the near post to steer Eriksen's delivery into the far corner. Again, Elliot got a touch but was unable to keep it out.
    • 41'
What can Newcastle do to respond? They were starting to offer a little bit more before the goal, but cannot afford to let their heads drop. They need to dust themselves down and try to find a way back into this game.
    • 43'
WHAT A CHANCE! Eriksen's shot takes a deflection off Coloccini, but falls very kindly for Rose. The left-back drills his shot right across the face of goal, however, and the ball goes out for a throw-in.
    • 45'
The fourth official raises his board to indicate that there will be two minutes of stoppage time at the end of this first half.
    • 46'
KICK OFF! Mr East blows the whistle and Spurs get the ball rolling again in the second half.
    • 48'
Spurs launch a very dangerous counter attack following a Newcastle throw-in near their own penalty area. Alli is tripped by Anita just outside the visitors' box and Eriksen is stood over the free kick...
    • 50'
Into the wall... There is a lot of anticipation ahead of the delivery, but Eriksen sends it straight into the wall and Newcastle are allowed to relax for a moment.
    • 52'
WHAT A CHANCE! Sissoko leads the counter attack for Newcastle and feeds the ball through for Cisse. He is forced a little wide but is just whiskers away from finding the far corner with a drilled effort. That was the visitors' best moment of the game so far.
    • 53'
GOOD EFFORT! Some space opens up in front of Kane, who tries his luck from 25 yards, and Elliot has to spring to his right and get a strong palm on the fierce drive.
    • 55'
Spurs are back on top in terms of their quality of possession in this second half. There is a lot more flow to their play as opposed to that of Newcastle so far. The visitors will be encouraged by that Cisse chance, though.
    • 57'
Newcastle are awarded their first corner of the game after good work from De Jong down the left. However, his subsequent delivery is disappointing and Spurs are able to clear without too many difficulties.
    • 59'
The signs are looking a little better for Newcastle over the past couple of minutes. They still need to do a lot more to threaten Spurs but they are making more opportunities for themselves in possession.
    • 61'
That just about sums it up for them, however. They have a throw-in near the far corner flag, but De Jong's return pass to Janmaat is directed straight out of play and the chance is gone.
    • 63'
SI Ayoze Pérez SO C. Eriksen
    • 63'
McClaren makes his first change of the afternoon and introduces the pace of Ayoze Perez in place of De Jong.
    • 65'
Newcastle have had more possession in this second half and Sissoko finds some space to run into down the right. His cross is disappointing, however, and an unchallenged Lloris is able to collect the ball out of the air.
    • 67'
Perez gets himself on the ball and looks for a Cisse with a lofted through pass. There is just too much pace on it, however, and Lloris comes out to collect.
    • 68'
Carroll is the first Spurs player to have his name taken by Mr East this afternoon.
    • 69'
SI Heung-Min Son SO C. Eriksen
    • 69'
That was Carroll's last action of the day, as he goes off to be replaced by Heung-Min Son.
    • 70'
Spurs are awarded a free kick in a decent position and Eriksen stands over it. There is plenty of whip in his delivery and Elliot does well to hold onto the ball with Spurs players lurking to pounce.
    • 72'
SI A. Mitrović SO C. Eriksen
    • 72'
Newcastle make another change and Cisse makes away following a disappointing afternoon. Aleksandar Mitrovic comes on in his place.
    • 73'
Rose receives a yellow card for blocking Janmaat's cross with his arm.
    • 74'
      G A. Mitrović Assist C. Eriksen
    • 74'
WHAT AN IMPACT!!! Colback's delivery is met by Coloccini at the far post. He nods it back across goal for Mbemba, who is denied by Lloris, before Mitrovic pounces to bundle it over the line.
    • 76'
Newcastle look invigorated all of a sudden and they can sense the victory. There is a lot of spirit now on show among the visiting players. Can they win it?
    • 78'
MUST DO BETTER! Perez releases Sissoko down the right wing and the Frenchman looks to square it for a certain tap-in for Mitrovic. His ball is poor, however, as it is behind his striker's run and Spurs clear.
    • 80'
Perez almost gets in behind the defence, but takes a heavy touch and is booked as he tries to win the ball back from Vertonghen.
    • 82'
Spurs are looking a little shaky at the moment. Newcastle's equaliser appears to have taken the stuffing out of them and they need to respond if they are going to steal the three points.
    • 84'
We are approaching the final stages of this game and this is anybody's for the taking. Spurs have been on top for the majority of this game, but Newcastle have shown great character to equalise.
    • 86'
SI N. Chadli SO C. Eriksen
    • 86'
Pochettino introduces the fresh legs of Nacer Chadli into the action as Spurs look for a winner. Lamela makes way for him.
    • 87'
NOW NOW! Handbags break out between Mitrovic and Alli on the near touchline, but the situation is quickly diffused by a stern telling off from the referee.
    • 89'
There is less than a minute of normal time remaining in this game. It is looking increasingly like the spoils will be shared with neither side really threatening in the final third.
    • 90'
INCHES! That is what separated Mitrovic's toes and the ball as he came agonisingly close to connecting with Sissoko's inviting ball. That would have certainly been the winning goal.
