    • 45'
A long ball catches the Newcastle defence high up the field and danger signs start flashing as Ighalo races onto the punt. However, Krul scampers outside his area to just about beat the Nigerian to the ball and clear!

That's all from me. Hope you enjoyed this one. Until next time.

And that's the end of the match. What looked so easy for Watford became a struggle as they just about clinch their second win of the season. Ighalo's double in the first half seemed to set them on their way, but a Magpies revival, led by goalscorer Janmaat, made things tight in the end. However, McC

And that will do it for the first half. Boos ring around St. James' Park as the Magpies are staring down the barrel of another defeat, which will make it six games without winning in the new season. Ighalo has put them to the sword twice with a pair of well-taken finishes, and the scoreline is a fai

McClaren makes only one change from the defeat to West Ham United, with Vurnon Anita being replaced by Ayoze Perez, who slots in behind lone striker Papiss Cisse. Meanwhile, Quique Flores has followed suit with a single alteration to the team that beat Swansea, with Ben Watson replacing Valon Behram

Newcastle have lost just one of their last 16 meetings with Watford - winning nine times during that span. Their last defeat against the Hornets came back in the old first Division 19 years ago. However, Watford have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four league matches, while the Tyneside c

Watford finished second in the Championship last term, only a point off winners Bournemouth, to advance back to the top flight. They tied their first three games against Everton, Southampton and West Brom, and also drew a blank as they fell at Manchester City. However, Odion Ighalo's goal against Sw

Two draws and three defeats from five games has seen Steve McClaren's team sink to the bottom of the standings. Newcastle were only four points out of the relegation zone by the end of last season, and the early signs seem to herald another fight to avoid the drop, based on their form under the ex-D

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the Premier League clash between Newcastle and Watford. The Magpies currently prop up the table after failing to win any of their games in 2015-16 so far, while the newly promoted visitors come into this game with some confidence after beating Swansea last t
    • 1'
      Off we go!
    • 3'
Newcastle are struggling in possession in deep areas, and Watford are looking to punish them with a high press. The visiting side have definitely started the stronger, with Ighalo demanding the ball.
    • 5'
NOT FAR WIDE! Newcastle fail to stop an advance down the left-hand side, and the cross falls to Abdi just on the edge of the box. He flicks a header to Ighalo, who lashes a volley towards goal that whistles past the bottom corner! Krul didn't move!
    • 7'
NOW NEWCASTLE THREATEN - WAS THAT A PENALTY? Janmaat charges forward and his cross causes all kinds of panic in the heart of the area. Cisse is scrambling to get a touch on it, and Prodl appears to have a handful of his shirt as he prods it towards goal, with Gomes springing backwards to keep it out

      G O. Ighalo Assist E. Capoue
    • 10'
      E. Capoue gave the assist.
    • 10'
IGHALO SCORES - WHO ELSE? A lovely move to cap off a wonderful start for Watford. Deeney starts it on the left by laying the ball off to Capoue, who sprays it left to the in-form striker. He squares up to Janmaat before sliding a neat finish inside the bottom of the near corner!
    • 12'
This game has started with an excellent tempo, and Watford, who have been the stronger side, have wasted little time in making their superiority count. They keep the pressure up as the ball remains trapped in the Magpies half.
    • 14'
CISSE! He should have hit the target at the very least there. Sissoko barges through the middle and slips in the striker with a lovely diagonal through ball. He has only Gomes to beat at a favourable angle, but his effort barely ripples the side netting.
    • 16'
It's been a tale of two strikers so far at St. James' Park. Ighalo, the man bang in form in 2015, has been at the heart of Watford's two best chances, burying one for the opener. At the other end of the pitch, Cisse, the man desperately needing a goal, has spearheaded the Magpies' pair of openings,
    • 18'
Watford are becoming a little rushed in possession in the final third, although Ighalo's activity and physical approach is still making him a handful for the Newcastle back four.
    • 20'
Perez gets a little lucky with an outside of the boot pass that is deflected into the overlapping run of Haidara, who tosses it to Sissoko at the top of the box. The midfielder opens his body up to finesse the ball into the far corner, but he ends up missing the target by a good metre or two.
    • 22'
Watford create danger once again. Abdi has the ball and there's no pressure on him from the Newcastle defence. He's about 20 yards out and is waiting for someone to make a run behind the defence, which never comes. The crowd is urging him to shoot, but he instead squares to Deeney who curls it just
    • 24'
The right side of the Watford defence is a potential weak spot, with Cisse being able to ghost between the centre-back Prodl and the full-back Nyom more than once. Colback tries to pick out the Sengalese striker with a clipped ball between the Watford pair, but he's just offside.
    • 26'
McClaren does not look happy with what he's seen from his side. It was always going to be hard to contain Ighalo this afternoon, but the lack of pressure from his side when defending has been jarring.
    • 28'
      G O. Ighalo Assist E. Capoue
    • 28'
      T. Deeney provided the assist.
    • 28'
IGHALO AGAIN! Deeney deserves tons of credit to pluck a ball out of the air, hold it up and turn to face Coloccini. He waits for the perfect moment to release Ighalo with a slipped pass, and the Nigerian leaves tread marks in the box as he beats Krul to the ball and slots into an empty net!
    • 30'
I've spoken of the lack of pressure from the Newcastle defence and it showed again during the buildup to that goal. As well as Deeney did to bring that ball down, he still should not have been allowed the time to control, turn and weigh up his options so close to the penalty area. Where was the chal
    • 32'
All signs point to this getting ugly for Newcastle by the time all is said and done. Their deplorable defending has been well-documented, and their attacking threat has been limited to hopeful balls for Cisse to try to break the offside trap. Still just under an hour to play though.
    • 34'
Nyom, why not? He charges through the middle and despite being at least 30-35 yards out, unleashes a powerful strike towards goal. It wasn't heading on target, but a deflection ends up winning the visitors a corner, which comes to naught.
    • 36'
      A. Abdi is cautioned by the referee.
    • 36'
First booking of the game comes in for the visitors. Watford try to pass their way through the Newcastle defence. When that venture fails, Thauvin attempts to break with the ball at his feet, but he's bodied to the turf quite unapologetically by Abdi. No complaints.
    • 38'
This first half has just flown by, with less than 10 minutes left until the half-time break. A third goal for Watford before the interval will wrap this up as a contest you feel, and it's still a possibility.
    • 40'
Much, much better from Newcastle and Thauvin, who shapes to shoot on his left foot and tests Gomes from the edge of the area. He's been trying to make things happen at least, but Watford, until then, have been able to stymie all of his forays forward.
    • 42'
Janmaat has adopted some decent positions in space high up the right side of the field. The problem has been that the pass out to him has not come. Newcastle have typically been hurried off the ball before they have been able to find their full-back.
    • 44'
Janmaat finally gets the ball out wide, but his cross is deflected and flies over to the other side. Newcastle manage to keep it alive though, and Sissoko lashes a long-range strike on goal that takes a deflection - which leads to a series of corners that Watford just about manage to deal with.
    • 46'
SI S. de Jong SO E. Capoue
    • 46'
      S. de Jong comes on for P. Cissé.
    • 46'
      Here we go again.
    • 48'
Cisse has departed during the half-time break and it's little surprise. He was having a torrid time in front of goal again, and Newcastle's approach became very one-dimensional as they resorted to balls over to top for him. De Jong has come on as his replacement.
    • 50'
Watford pick up where they left off as Deeney grabs the ball in space some 20-25 yards from goal, and he decides to have a crack. A deflection takes it around the post but it's a positive moment again for the visitors.
    • 52'
The risk for Newcastle is the more they commit men forward, the more space they leave for Ighalo to exploit. He's been a one-man wrecking ball at times this afternoon and thrives in the open field.
    • 54'
Newcastle have wrangled a spell on the ball, forcing a few corners but not managing to make anything stick. Watford have been committed at the back and have not really had a major slip-up yet.
    • 56'
Not a whole lot happening out on the pitch which will suit Watford just fine. There's not real need for them to risk much, although a third goal for them will really eliminate any lingering worries of a Newcastle comeback.
    • 59'
The crowd have a noticeably more positive outlook in this half than in the first, where the atmosphere was (deservedly) poisonous as Newcastle struggled to contain Watford. A lot of noise in St. James' Park.
    • 61'
Perez turns away from his marker and spies Sissoko making a darting run down the right, and he picks out the Frenchman with the right pass. Sissoko does the right thing, spraying a low ball across the face of goal, but Watford just about manage to clear it.
    • 62'
      G D. Janmaat Assist E. Capoue
    • 62'
The assist came from M. Sissoko.
    • 62'
NEWCASTLE HAVE PULLED ONE BACK! Janmaat dovetails superbly with Sissoko down the right flank, exchanging a multitude of passes with the Frenchman as they carve their way into the box. When in shooting range, he collects the final return pass and converts from in close!
    • 64'
Well, Newcastle have been better in this half, and now, all the momentum should go in their favour after that goal. Janmaat has been eager to get into attacking positions this afternoon, and he's finally gotten involved on the ball to devastating effect. Game on!
    • 66'
Watford try to hit back down at the other end, but Deeney just can't get to the ball ahead of Mbemba, who covers excellently for a momentary lapse by his teammates inside the area. Heating up fast here.
    • 68'
JANMAAT! He really is taking this game by the scruff of the neck! Collecting the ball on the right-hand side, he cuts inside onto his left foot and smashes one towards the near corner, with a sprawling parry from Gomes diverting it around the post!
    • 70'
With Cisse off the pitch, Newcastle's primary point man in attack has been Janmaat. Every ball is making its way out to the right-back, who is causing incredible danger out wide. Watford are rattled here!
    • 72'
Terrible, just terrible from Newcastle on that last play. Krul lets the ball run across his body under pressure from Ighalo, and plays it out to Haidara. Watford keep the pressure on, and Abdi nips the ball off the full-back. They cannot afford to be that slack at the back.
    • 74'
Watford win a high, bouncing ball and that sparks Deeney on the attack. There's suspicions of a handball, but it goes uncalled as he advances to the top of the box. He waits for a teammate to make a run and when that doesn't come, he lets fly on goal, but it's blocked.

SI S. Berghuis SO E. Capoue
    • 76'
      S. Berghuis comes on for A. Abdi.
    • 76'
Janmaat slips in Sissoko down the right with a deft ball. The Frenchman is under pressure from the defence and tries to return it to the full-back, but Watford are able to intercept that one.
    • 77'
Abdi had himself a strong first half but like his team, he has rather let the game pass him by after the interval. His afternoon is at an end as Berghuis enters the fray for Watford's first change of the game.
    • 79'
More changes in the offing here. Haidara has been sacrificed for Aarons, while Jurado jogs off for Ake. Meanwhile, Capoue has picked up a booking for a challenge on Wijnaldum in the middle of the park.

SI N. Aké SO E. Capoue
    • 80'
      N. Aké comes on for Jurado.
    • 80'
      R. Aarons enters the game and replaces M. Haïdara.
    • 80'
      E. Capoue is yellow-carded.
    • 81'
The tempo of the game has slowed down slightly, but it's still Newcastle who are dominating the ball here. Gomes has shown sound command of his area in this game, and he races off his line again to pluck Janmaat's cross out of the air before someone in black and white can attack it.
    • 83'
PENALTY? Prodl once again is caught up in an appeal for a spot-kick as he gets tangled with Perez who goes down but once again, the referee is unmoved by the protests from the home side.
    • 85'
Worry here for Newcastle as their danger man Janmaat is down and signalling for the physios after landing heavily following a challenge. Will be a big blow for them if he's forced to sit out the last few minutes.
    • 87'
Watson has jogged off for Guedioura, who will partner Capoue for the last few minutes - not before the departing Watford man gets a shove from the returned Janmaat for taking his time to leave. Obertan has also made an appearance for Thauvin as Newcastle search for a last-gap leveler.

    • 88'
      G. Obertan comes on for F. Thauvin.
    • 89'
      J. Colback goes into the referee's book.
    • 89'
NOT FAR OFF! Watford nearly seal the game as Nyom cuts in from the flank to have a crack on goal, but his effort goes high into the sky in the end, with some fans celebrating a goal for a second!
    • 90'
Newcastle are making a last stand around the Watford box but the visitors are holding firm. Anywhere will do for the Hornets, and it appears that the Magpies have finally run out of ideas and time.
    • 45'
Watford have taken their foot off the gas a little as half-time has approached, allowing Newcastle to have a spell on the ball. However, with the hosts unable to create any danger, their lead looks safe.
    • 90'
Aarons races down the left but his execution at the end of the run is lacking as he slashes the ball across the face of goal. It was neither a cross not a shot and is met with an ironic cheer from the visiting fans.
