And that's all from Goodison Park this afternoon. I've been Jonathan Davies, thank you for following the LIVE action of the Barclays Premier League - hope you've enjoyed it. Until next time, have a very good weekend!

All square then in a very exciting opening game of the 2015/16 Barclays Premier League season. Watford took a 14th-minute lead through Miguel Layun, before Ross Barkley equalised 14 minutes from time. Substitute Odion Ighalo looked to have won it for the new boys in the 83rd minute, only for fellow

      FULL TIME: EVERTON 2-2 WATFORD
    • 0'
The teams are coming back out onto the field and the second half is about to commence.
    • 0'
As for Everton, there is plenty for them to think about at the break. They started off well but have looked short of ideas going forward since. Martinez needs to encourage them now, they've got quality but must use it well.
    • 0'
Watford will be very pleased with themselves after that first-half performance, they just need to be careful not to sit back too much in the second and rest on their laurels.

    • 0'
The teams are out and kick off is just moments away!

It's a tough one to call today. Everton have won each of their last nine matches against Watford who, in turn, are unbeaten on the opening weekend of a season since losing to the Toffees on the first day of their previous Premier League campaign in 2006/07.

After eight seasons away, Watford are back in the top-flight. Quique Flores takes charge of the Hornets for the first time and names six new signings in his first selection, including ex-West Ham player Valon Behrami and former Tottenham man Etienne Capoue in the centre of midfield. GOOD AFTERNOON LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! This is Jonathan Davies welcoming you to the opening weekend of the 2015/16 Barclays Premier League season! We're at Goodison Park for today's LIVE text commentary as Everton take on newly-promoted Watford.
    • 1'
KICK OFF! Mike Jones blows his whistle and Watford get us underway!
    • 3'
As just mentioned, our referee today is Mike Jones. The 47-year-old from Cheshire brandished 117 yellow cards and 10 red during his 34 games last season.
    • 5'
It will be interesting to see how this new-look Watford gel today. Three of the back four have been signed over the summer and Flores will be hoping they can consolidate as a unit fairly quickly.
    • 7'
It has been a fairly open start to the game. Both sides are looking assured and confident on the ball. Everton have probably just shaded things inside the opening seven minutes.
    • 8'
Galloway shows that he is capable of deputising for Baines straight away, as he covers his centre-half well by coming across to make a decent interception from Deeney.
    • 10'
Both sides will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Manchester United and get their seasons off to a perfect start. United overcame Tottenham Hotspur by a goal to nil in today's earlier kick-off.
    • 12'
Watford are playing a very patient game here. They are happy to just sit back and let their opponents have possession, providing they hold themselves together.
    • 14'
      G M. Layún Assist M. Layún
    • 14'
A DREAM START FOR WATFORD!!! Jurado sends a cross over from the left. It is cleared by Jagielka but only as far as Layun, who fires first time into the bottom corner past Howard.
    • 16'
That is exactly what Flores will have wanted. It has been a very confident start from his side and he will be hoping they can keep this going throughout the season.
    • 18'
Incredibly, that is the 36th goal that Everton have conceded in their opening game of a Premier League season - that's more than any other side.
    • 19'
NO CHANCES FROM GOMES! A corner is swung in from the right and met by Barry who looks to guide the ball into the top corner, but the Watford keeper gets across well and tips it over the bar.
    • 21'
It is not only Watford who have got off to the perfect start this season. Over at the King Power Stadium, Leicester have already raced into a 2-0 lead over Sunderland!
    • 23'
The Goodison Park faithful are getting a little restless here. They will have big expectations this year following a tough 2014/15, where their side struggled to juggle the top-flight with their Europa League commitments.
    • 24'
Deeney is looking at home. He is holding his own very well on his first appearance in the Premier League. He looks to play in Anya with a nicely-weighted through ball, but Howard is quick out of goal to gather.
    • 26'
Barkley can be so dangerous when he finds the small pokcets of space in the middle of the pitch. He looks to do so again but is quickly dispossessed by a wonderful sliding challenge from Behrami.
    • 28'
Excellent defending from Watford! McCarthy receives the ball on the edge of their area but some terrific pressing almost sees the midfielder forced back to the halfway line.
    • 30'
Barkley announced himself with a stunning goal against Norwich on the opening day of the 2013/14 season. He finds himself in a similar position where he shuffles the ball onto his left foot 25 yards from goal, but sends this effort high into the stands.
    • 31'
THAT WAS A BETTER EFFORT! Mirallas darts into the area and lays the ball back for Barkley, who takes a touch before unleashing a powerful effort and Gomes shows great reflexes to tip it over.
    • 33'
Watford have defended well so far but they don't want to drop too deep. Deeney just received the ball to feet midway inside his own half and they need to push themselves up the field.
    • 35'
Everton do tend to be rusty in the early stages of any season. In fact, they have won just one of their last seven opening Premier League fixtures. That came against Manchester United in 2012.
    • 37'
They could find things difficult this campaign as, before the end of October, they are scheduled to play each of the teams who finished in the top seven last season.
    • 39'
Everton's all-round play hasn't been to bad so far on the whole. They just seem a little short of ideas in the final third. Mind you, Watford have been exceptional at the back in this first half.
    • 41'
Capoue links up nicely with Jurado 35 yards from goal before adavancing and trying his luck with a drilled effort which is straight at Howard. Nevertheless, it's all positive signs for the Hornets.
    • 42'
      T. Deeney goes into the referee's book.
    • 42'
DEENEY IS LUCKY! The ball doesn't quite fall for the Watford skipper after a good run from Anya. He then dives recklessly into a challenge on Galloway that leaves the Everton youngster writhing in agony. He is fortunate as Mr Jones shows him just a yellow card.
    • 44'
Well read by Gomes! Lukaku chases a long ball over the Watford defence but the Watford keeper is quickly out to claw the ball away from his path.
    • 45'
OOH SO CLOSE! A cross is cleared by Everton straight to Layun 25 yards from goal. The goalscorer drills back a vicious effort that fizzes just wide of the far post.
    • 46'
KICK OFF! And away we go, Everton gets things going once more.
    • 47'
Everton start the second half well with some very neat link-up play and Behrami has to make a vital interception to stop Coleman from delivering the cross.
    • 49'
IMPORTANT TOUCH FROM GOMES! Mirallas delivers a cross from the right hand side. It really isn't the best but it swings towards goal and the Watford keeper has to tip it over the bar.
    • 50'
HE SHOULD DO BETTER! Barkley a dangerously deep cross with his left foot to the far post where Lukaku is unmarked, but cannot direct a header towards goal.
    • 52'
There is a lot of purpose about the hosts' play since half time. They are looking so much more dangerous and Watford cannot get out of their own half.
    • 53'
RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME! Lukaku and Barkley find McCarthy darting into the penalty area. He pulls the ball back across the box, but Cathcart takes up a good position and is able to prevent an almost certain tap-in.
    • 54'
      S. Coleman is cautioned by the referee.
    • 55'
Watford are hanging on here. Granted they are now protecting a lead, but they have began this second half completely the opposite to how they did the first when they were flowing forward with attacks.
    • 57'
Should they go on to hold out for the win, it would be their first on the opening weekend of a Premier League season. They have lost their previous two against Everton in 2006/07 and Wimbledon in 1999/2000.
    • 59'
SI J. Paredes SO M. Layún
    • 59'
      J. Paredes enters play, replacing M. Layún.
    • 59'
The visitors are now going to make the first change of the afternoon and it is the goalscorer Layun making way, with Juan Carlos Paredes taking his place.
    • 61'
Everton have some good options on the bench if they wish to use them. The likes of Arouna Kone and Steven Naismith have the ability to make things happen.
    • 63'
SI A. Koné SO M. Layún
    • 63'
      B. Galloway is replaced with A. Koné.
    • 63'
Kone is called upon by Martinez and it is an interesting move. Galloway is the man to make way and the striker takes his place up front with Barry moving to left-back.
    • 65'
Barry is no stranger to that position, of course, but you have to go back to his younger days at Aston Villa for the last time he regularly played there.
    • 66'
      J. Holebas gets yellow.
    • 66'
Watford show the first real sign that they are already hanging on to this lead, as Holebas is booked for time-wasting for not taking a throw-in when he should have.
    • 67'
GOOD EFFORT! The Watford left-back then tries his luck with a fierce drive from distance and Howard has to get strong hands on the ball to beat it away.
    • 68'
KONE SHOULD DO BETTER! Cleverley delivers a marvellous cross from out deep on the right hand side. Kone is unmarked in the area but can only direct his header wide with Gomes flat-footed.
    • 70'
OUCH! Mirallas is receiving attention from the physios after Behrami mistimes his tackle and accidentally stands on the ankle of the Everton winger. Martinez will want him to continue.
    • 72'
It is Coleman's turn to deliver a delicious ball into the area but, again, nobody in blue really attacks the cross and Gomes is able to rise unchallenged to punch clear.
    • 74'
SI O. Ighalo SO M. Layún
    • 74'
      O. Ighalo enters play, replacing Jurado.
    • 74'
Watford are making another change and Jurado is given a rest by Flores. He has worked hard for his team today and is replaced by Odion Ighalo, who netted 17 goals in 18 games at the back end of last season.
    • 76'
      G R. Barkley Assist M. Layún
    • 76'
      A. Koné gave the assist.
    • 76'
WHAT AN EQUALISER FROM BARKLEY!!! EVERTON ARE LEVEL! Coleman's cross is controlled and laid off by Kone into the path of Barkley, who fires a thumping strike into the top corner. No chance for Gomes - game on!
    • 77'
SI B. Oviedo SO M. Layún
    • 77'
      K. Mirallas is done for the day. B. Oviedo is his replacement.
    • 78'
Everton have plenty of momentum with them now going into the final 12 minutes of this game. They will fancy themselves to go on and get a winner, but need to be wary of Watford on the counter attack.
    • 79'
SI B. Watson SO M. Layún
    • 79'
      V. Behrami is done for the day. B. Watson is his replacement.
    • 80'
Watford have made their final change and introduced Ben Watson, who gave Martinez his greatest moment as a manager with the winning goal in the 2013 FA Cup final for Wigan. Behrami makes way.
    • 82'
Everton won the repeat of this fixture 2-1 back in August 2006. Mikel Arteta and Andy Johnson scored the goals. That same scoreline would do very nicely for them here.
    • 83'
      G O. Ighalo Assist M. Layún
    • 83'
      Assist by T. Deeney.
    • 83'
WHAT AN IMPACT FROM THE SUBSTITUTE!!! IS THAT THE WINNER?! A long kick down the field breaks Ighalo's way and he cleverly cuts inside Stones, before drilling the ball past Howard to regain his side's advantage.
    • 85'
WOW! That really wasn't in Everton's script! It was a beautifully taken goal by Ighalo, who left Stones for dead with that dummy before finishing with aplomb.
    • 86'
      G A. Koné Assist M. Layún
    • 86'
The assist came from R. Lukaku.
    • 86'
WHAT A RESPONSE FROM EVERTON!!! We're all level once again as an attack sees Lukaku find Kone, who races onto the ball and drills it into the far corner. Pick a winner from this one!...
    • 88'
Fantastic drama in the closing stages here at Goodison! Both sides really going for it here as they look to get three points on the board on this opening weekend. We've got an exciting final two minutes plus stoppage time to come...
    • 90'
FIVE MINUTES! Steven Naismith is sent on by Martinez in search of a winner in place of Lukaku and, straight after that, the fourth official indicates that we will have five minutes of additional time.
