    • KICK OFF
    • 90'
Kane goes to the corner flag and wins a free-kick in front of the Spurs faithful. He holds it there again but Villa win the goal-kick. Guzan launches it forwards but the referee blows for full time.
    • PENALTY SHOOTOUT
    • 90'
Villa have a free-kick forty yards back. Westwood will take and this is probably Villa's last chance. Kane finds Kaboul, who releases Rose. The ball comes to Townsend who is well tackled. Again, the away team will take their time.
    • 90'
Kane is fouled and Spurs are in no hurry to take this. Lloris sends it up but the ball goes out for a Villa throw.
    • EXTRA TIME
    • 90'
      SI D. Bent SO C. N'Zogbia
    • 90'
      D. Bent enters play, replacing A. Cissokho.
    • HALF TIME
    • 90'
Bent is on for Villa as they chase the game. Lamela teases Lowton but Guzan gathers the cross.
    • 90'
This is the first of at least five minutes of additional time. Spurs will be counting their lucky stars and surely need to do no more than see this one out. Imagine being a Villa fan at the moment.

The game threatened to boil over at several points, but it was Harry Kane who kept his cool and found the net to give Spurs a vital away win that relieves some of the pressure on manager Pochettino.
    • 0'
Weimann had opened the scoring for the home team, their first goal in over nine hours of play, but Chadli grabbed one back from a corner after Benteke had been sent off for slapping Mason.
    • 0'
And so it finishes, Aston Villa 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur. Local hero Harry Kane got the late winner with a wicked deflection from a free-kick after Villa had been under the cosh.

    • 0'
Kaboul is looking a bit shaky against Benteke's strength and you can clearly see how much Villa have missed him. For the away team, Adebayor has had a good one-on-one with Guzan saved. At the moment 1-0 is looking like a fair result, but I wouldn't bet on it staying that way.
    • 0'
Spurs' 4-4-2 is not producing enough pressure on the Villa centre-backs, and the home team's full-backs are finding a lot of space and producing some excellent crosses. Weimann is working hard too, but the story of the half is the bullocking play of Christian Benteke, who has caused all sorts of pro

Well, well. It's Aston Villa 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur. Both sides started very brightly before Villa began to build pressure. The home side scored after a well-worked move saw N'Zogbia cross for Weimann.
    • 0'
Eriksen has been booked for tugging back N'Zogbia on an attempted Villa counter. That's the first yellow of the game.

It should be an intriguing contest, though, with Villa desperate to score, let alone win, and Spurs looking to match their European and Cup form in the League, where they've been far less assertive.
    • 0'
By playing two up-front, Spurs wil run the risk of being out-numbered in the centre of the park, but Villa's midfield three look workmanlike and to stand a chance of getting the mismatch, much will be expected defensively of N'Zogbia and Weimann, hardly a strength of theirs.
    • 0'
Spurs will look to overwhelm Villa's midfield three with the extra man, denying the quick wingers Weimann and N'Zogbia the ball by winning it high up the pitch.
    • 0'
The away team have an excellent record against Villa too, having beaten them in their last five League and Cup encounters, scoring 15 and conceding none. On paper, this looks like another game to heap pressure on Paul Lambert but in the Premier League, anything can happen.
    • 0'
Spurs, fresh from their League Cup win against Brighton, have changed to a 4-4-2 but cannot find a place for Harry Kane, scorer of a hat-trick in Europe last week and netting again in the Cup.
    • 0'
Things are far from rosy at Villa Park: for the first time ever, they have lost five games in a row without scoring; Benteke is only just back from long-term injury and will take time to rediscover his form; and Villa are missing Hutton and Senderos at the back.

I'm Alex Stewart and I'll be bringing you all the action from this afternoon's encounter at Villa Park. Before we get into a little previewing, here are the teams.
    • 0'
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen! Prepare yourselves for this afternoon's Premier League fixture LIVE, Aston Villa vs Tottenham. Spurs quickly fashion a chance and Soldado shoots low and only fractionally wide.
    • 1'
And they're off! After a beautifully observed minute's silence, the teams kick off to a roar from Villa Park. The home side get us underway.
    • 2'
Spurs have started brightly, Soldado shooting wide and low and Adebayor fluffing a chance at the near post after a lovely chipped ball. Villa do well to create a chance for Benteke and win a corner, after good strength and close control from the big Belgian.
    • 3'
A neat flick on from Weimann fails to produce a chance from that corner and Spurs clear.
    • 4'
It's all focussed on Benteke from Villa at the moment. They are looking to exploit his strength and presence with long balls drifted in. How the home team have missed him!
    • 5'
Adebayor and Soldado almost carve out a chance for the mis-firing Spaniard, but Villa clear. Spurs come again with patience, before Naughton releases Soldado out wide. The home team clear again.
    • 6'
Rose gallops forward in space but his cross is woefully over-hit. That was a waste.
    • 7'
Both teams are showing a lot of energy and the zip of the ball on a moist playing surface is helping the speed of passing. Baker clears well for a corner as it's played into Adebayor.
    • 8'
From the ensuing corner, N'Zogbia carries it clear but loses out. Eriksen looks to play in Adebayor but the striker is offside.
    • 10'
Eriksen has a shot blocked by Lowton after Adebayor's backheel finds Rose, who pulls the ball back to the Dane. Spurs' attacking line-up is causing problems. Lowton then crosses well at the other end, but Benetke's diving header is wide.
    • 11'
Eriksen half-volleys a shot into his own player and the rebound is headed wide by Soldado. That came from a miscued clearance by Baker.
    • 13'
BENTEKE! The frame of the goal is still quivering! He hammers it on the half-volley on the turn after a great run and cross from Cissohko.
    • 14'
You would not have guessed that both teams are short of confidence. There is a real buzz to this game. Another good cross from Lowton is headed by Kaboul onto the shoulder of Benetke, but he can't control it and it loops over.
    • 16'
      G A. Weimann Assist C. N'Zogbia
    • 16'
The assist came from C. N'Zogbia.
    • 16'
WEIMANN! IT'S BEEN 9 HOURS BUT VILLA HAVE SCORED! N'Zogbia bursts forward and angles in, before playing a quick low cross towards the penalty spot. Weimann stretches out a leg and steers it low into the left-hand side of Lloris' goal with the Spurs keeper rooted. A lovely goal.
    • 17'
Lowton bends in a dangerous cross towards Benteke but Spurs deal well with it. The Claret and Blues are playing with real vim now.
    • 19'
Spurs win a corner with Chadli causing problems in the Villa box. Eriksen finds Kaboul and Guzan does well to take it under pressure from Adebayor.
    • 20'
Cissokho steams forward again and Kaboul clears well under pressure from Weimann. Both Villa full-backs are getting into good positions and delivering quality crosses. Kaboul has been busy and looks stretched by Benteke.
    • 22'
Eriksen whips in a free-kick which is headed across goal. It comes to Chadli who dinks in a ball which Kaboul hurls himself at, but Guzan bravely comes to smother it. Good goalkeeping from the American.
    • 22'
Eriksen whips in a free-kick which is headed across goal. It comes to Chadli who dinks in a ball which Kaboul hurls himself at, but Guzan bravely comes to smother it. Good goalkeeping from the American.
    • 24'
The game is still very open and quick. It's making for an exciting spectacle and you'd be hard pushed not to see more goals in it. Spurs are pressing high up the pitch and keeping the pressure on Villa.
    • 25'
      C. Eriksen is yellow-carded.
    • 27'
ADEBAYOR! Oh he should have done better with that chance. Released into the box and under a bit of pressure from Vlaar, the Spurs striker finds himself one-on-one with Guzan, who does superbly to deny him with a plunging save.
    • 30'
Benteke's substantial frame gets in the way of a Tom Cleverley shot. Lowton then shoots wide from the resulting cross.
    • 32'
The Villa full-backs combine again well, with Lowton volleying hard past the post after Cissohko's pulled back cross. This game is like an exciting pendulum!
    • 34'
Weimann shoots over there as he leans back into a shot.
    • 36'
Baker blocks a shot by Chadli and the ball rebounds to Kaboul. Mason tries to get round the outside of Cissokho who hauls him down near the corner flag.
    • 38'
      A. Cissokho receives a yellow card.
    • 39'
Guzan smothers well after a pull back from Rose. Both teams are still going at it hell for leather and there will surely be more goals.
    • 40'
There's no doubt that Pochettino will be infuriated by this performance so far. The Spurs game plan is being undone by wasted chances and giving the Villa wide men too much time and space.
    • 42'
BENTEKE! A huge leap from the Belgian against Kaboul, who is being given a torrid time here. Villa are making excellent use of his strength and movement.
    • 44'
There be will next to no extra time and Spurs will get a mauling in the changing rooms, one feels.
    • 45'
Spurs get us underway, having likely suffered quite a telling-off in the changing room. Pochettino has replaced Eriksen with Lamela, he of Rabona fame, to bring some much-needed creativity.
    • 45'
And that's it! Villa finish in the ascendency with plenty of the ball. Spurs' fans must be monumentally frustrated. If you let Villa score, you must be doing something very wrong.
    • 46'
      SI E. Lamela SO C. N'Zogbia
    • 46'
      C. Eriksen is done for the day. E. Lamela is his replacement.
    • 46'
There are glum faces on the Spurs bench. Pochettino looks thunderous. The away team have had most of the early possession without creating any chances. Naughton looks to play in Adebayor but his pass is off.
    • 47'
Sputs have been let down, by and large, by their final ball, and that pass to Adebayor was a microcosm of their problems. Chadli bursts into the box but gets in a tangle and Cissohko clears for a corner.
    • 48'
Lamela's corner is cleared and N'Zogbia hares forward, brushing off Naughton. Rose clears well. Villa win a free-kick on the right-hand side.
    • 49'
N'Zogbia's free-kick is quick but well cleared by Spurs. Villa come again but Cissohko gives away a foul and the away team can clear.
    • 50'
Weimann accelerates into space away from his wing but his cross is cleared. Spurs can counter here, Soldado finding Chadlii. Guzan flaps at the shot on the ground and spills it, but Adebayor, following up, can't direct it towards goal.
    • 51'
Lamela looks to play in Adebayor but Cissohko defends that superbly in the box and the Spurs striker concedes a free-kick, yanking at his shirt.
    • 53'
Mason passes the ball straight out and it's his bad luck that the ball goes towards his now furious looking manager. Mason shakes his head ruefully.
    • 55'
Cissohko finds acres of space on the left but his driven shot rebounds off Kaboul for a throw-in. There were Villa players in good positions there but the Frenchman chose to ignore them.
    • 56'
Benteke overruns the ball in a dangerous position. Rose hauls down Weimann as they contest the ball in the air as Villa attack again.
    • 57'
The resulting free-kick from N'Zogbia is floated teasingly towards the far post but a touch overhit. Kane is now on for Adebayor in what will surely be a popular move with the travelling fans. He instantly has an impact, driving a low cross into the near post which Guzan forces out.
    • 58'
      SI H. Kane SO C. N'Zogbia
    • 58'
      E. Adebayor is done for the day. H. Kane is his replacement.
    • 58'
From the resulting corner, Kane leans back to head it into Guzan's arms. The Spurs striker looks hungry and eager.
    • 59'
Vertonghen goes heavily in with at least one foot up. Players swarm around the referee and he needs to deal with this. Vertonghen planted his right foot and his left foot was a bit high. That was a strong tackle and earns a yellow for the Belgian.
    • 61'
      J. Vertonghen is cautioned by the referee.
    • 61'
The game has entered a slightly ragged phase with possession going back and forth. Both teams are steaming into tackles as well. It's quite spicy.
    • 62'
Mason blasts it over after Soldado releases Chadli and the Englishman picks up the scraps.
    • 63'
Oh dear, oh dear. Benteke raises his hands and there are players swarming around the referee. Lamela is straight in to remonstrate with him. This is getting very, very heated.
    • 64'
Benteke is off! He receives a red for a childish slap on Mason. While the letter of the law says he raised his hands and that's enough, there was little malice in that.
    • 65'
      C. Benteke is sent off by the referee!
    • 66'
The referee has lost control of this. Weimann's shot is clearly deflected over for a corner but Swarbrick gives a goal-kick and the Villa player is straight over, shouting at him. Cool heads need to prevail here. At the moment, though, I'm not sure there are any.
    • 68'
Lamela shoots straight at Guzan in the first piece of football in the last three minutes.
    • 69'
      A. Weimann goes into the referee's book.
    • 69'
Weimann is seriously angry now and is booked for a volley of abuse at the linesman after not getting a decision. Lambert is readying Gabby Agbonlahor and he might consider taking the young winger off before he loses the option.
    • 71'
Kane turns well and bursts forward and is fouled. Lamela bends the resulting free-kick over. Townsend is on for Capoue and Lamela and Mason are the new central midfield. That looks a bit weak, in truth.
    • 72'
      SI A. Townsend SO C. N'Zogbia
    • 72'
      E. Capoue is replaced with A. Townsend.
    • 73'
Mason releases Rose but the ball is a smidgen too heavy and the full-back can't quite get to it. Agbonlahor is on for N'Zogbia. The Frenchman has been pretty good this afternoon, setting up Weimann and producing some good moments from set-pieces too.
    • 74'
      SI G. Agbonlahor SO C. N'Zogbia
    • 74'
      G. Agbonlahor comes on for C. N'Zogbia.
    • 74'
Westwood clears from Kane as the Spurs striker bullies his way into the box.
    • 75'
Lowton clears at the back post from Naughton's cross. Spurs have upped the ante here and are looking to exploit the one man advantage.
    • 77'
Lowton brilliantly steals in to intercept Rose's pass. He finds Agbonlahor who does well to win a corner with no support. That relieves a lot of pressure for Villa.
    • 78'
Lloris punches clear from the corner with plenty of distance. Villa come again through Sissohko but Villa can't fashion another chance.
    • 79'
Chadli is booked for a foul on Westwood. The referee played advantage but came back to book him. Villa will want to eat up the time here.
    • 80'
      N. Chadli goes into the referee's book.
    • 80'
Kane bustles forwards again and there is a hint of desperation to Villa's defence. They win a free-kick though and will lump it forwards.
    • 81'
Townsend wins a free-kick and Spurs move it quickly. They have ten and a few extra minutes to make something happen here because they haven't for a while. Given their creative players and the two strikers on the pitch, this is very disappointing performance from the away team.
    • 84'
      G N. Chadli Assist C. N'Zogbia
    • 84'
      E. Lamela gave the assist.
    • 84'
CHADLI SCORES! Naughton wins a corner off Sissohko's posterior. Lamela whips it in to the far post and it evades everyone to find the Belgian, who side foots it in from two yards. Spurs will throw everything at this now!
    • 85'
Cissohko has a superb effort which just bends away at the last moment. Agbonlahor broke brilliantly and the ball was played square to the on-rushing full-back. Richardson is on for Weimann in a defensive switch for the home team.
    • 86'
      SI K. Richardson SO C. N'Zogbia
    • 86'
      A. Weimann is replaced with K. Richardson.
    • 87'
Kane finds Townsend, who sweeps in a cross that Baker clears. Another corner, another chance for Spurs. Mason shoots but Cleverley clears. Spurs come again and Sanchez concedes a free-kick right in the middle of the goal on the edge of the box. Kane wants it.
    • 89'
      C. Sánchez goes into the referee's book.
    • 90'
      G H. Kane Assist C. N'Zogbia
    • 90'
KANE HAS DONE IT! A cruel deflection from the Villa wall sends the ball looping into the middle of the goal as Guzan moves across to where it should have been going. That is very unlucky for the home team. It's Aston Villa 1-2 Tottenham with only extra time to go.
