Liverpool stars continue Kane mockery

Harry Kane was mentioned with regularity on Sunday (AEST) as Premier League rivals continued to poke fun at the Tottenham Hotspur striker.

After Christian Eriksen's free-kick found the back of the net in a 2-1 win away to Stoke City last weekend, the goal was officially awarded to Kane midweek after the league’s Goal Accreditation Appeals Panel adjudged Kane to have taken the final touch.

“After taking the player’s testimony into account and reviewing the match footage, a three-person panel agreed that the final touch on the ball belonged to Kane,” a statement released by the Premier League read.
And with Kane in a hard-fought battle with Mohamed Salah for the league's Golden Boot award, his Liverpool teammate Jordan Henderson could not help himself following the Reds’ comprehensive 3-0 win over Bournemouth.

“(Salah) told me he’s going to claim all of them,” Henderson told BT Sport after the Egypt international scored his 30th league goal of the campaign.

It didn’t end there however, with James Milner taking to social media shortly after the match for one last dig.

“Another hat-trick for Mo today,” Milner wrote via Twitter. “Just waiting for the other two to be confirmed by the claims panel.”
Kane was also in action on Sunday, but found little joy as Manchester City kept him quiet during their 3-1 victory at Wembley.

But, with Christian Eriksen again on the scoresheet, it did not take long for jokes at Kane’s expense to resurface on social media - including one from Arsenal's Hector Bellerin.

Prior to the defeat, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted the goal mockery had affected his star striker, telling The Guardian: “It’s normal that he was a little bit disappointed because Harry and all our players have Twitter, Instagram and all those things, and while Tottenham fans will have supported him, fans of other clubs will have killed him.

“He was disappointed because he never wanted to create this. I think he is going to learn a lot from this you know.”

Kane currently trails Salah by five goals with five league games left to play, and will hope to decrease the deficit against Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday (AEST).
