Former Western Sydney Wanderers defender Iacopo La Rocca has joined Adelaide United on a two-year deal.
The 31-year-old Italian links with the Reds after three seasons at the Wanderers where he made 58 appearances and won the A-League Premiers' Plate and the 2014 AFC Champions League trophy.
La Rocca, said he was honoured to have been approached by the Reds and is looking forward to being a contributor to bringing some more silverware, to add to last season's FFA Cup, to the club this season.
"I decided to sign because Adelaide showed they really wanted me and I am very happy to sign for one of the strongest clubs in Australia and to be part of this group of players,” said La Rocca.
“I reckon we can win more trophies. I believe my experience and a willingness to give my all for the team and coach at all times can help the team succeed.”
La Rocca also said the style of play that coach Josep Gombau has brought to the Reds was a factor in his decision.
“Everyone knows Adelaide plays the best football in Australia and I can’t wait to be a part of this style, but it’s up to me to prove myself and earn my spot in the team.”
Gombau said the qualities La Rocca brings to the club are exactly what he was looking to add to the playing group in their quest to go a step further this season.
“Iacopo is a player who has extensive experience both here and internationally. He’s a proven winner and can also play in different positions," said Gombau.
“He brings a different dimension to our squad, which is something we were looking for.
La Rocca is set to arrive in Adelaide next week and will be joining the squad immediately upon arrival to prepare for the 2015-2016 A-League season.
