The Australian Under 17 national team has scored a 4-0 win against Vanuatu in their Group B Oceania qualifying tournament match.

Matt Hilton snared a hat-trick for the Joeys, with Tim Smits the other goal-scorer.

After a tense opening half-hour, Australia took control of the match just before half-time with two goals in three minutes by Hilton.

The first came on 41 minutes, when the Olympic Sharks striker knocked in a cross by Kristian Sarkies and he doubled the advantage in the 44th minute with a superb individual strike.

Australia?s third goal came on 65 minutes, when Smits ran onto a pass from Eric Paartalu to put Australia further ahead.

Hilton completed his hat-trick on 79 minutes when he converted a penalty after he was brought down in the box.

Joeys coach Ange Postecoglou was delighted with his team?s effort.

"The first 20 minutes were pretty even, though we did create some chances."

"After that period I felt we were quite dominant for the whole game. It was pleasing as Vanuatu are no walkover by any means and proved that by drawing with New Zealand the other day."

It was Australia?s third win from as many matches at the tournament, following a 3-1 defeat of the Solomon Islands and a 9-0 spanking of Tahiti.

Australia meets New Zealand on Saturday. A win over the Kiwis will secure the Joeys top spot in the group.
