Jets sign Brazilian striker Jair

Newcastle Jets have bolstered their attacking stocks with the signature of 30-year-old Brazilian Striker Jair Eduardo Britto da Silva.

The centre-forward joins the club on a one-year-deal from Chinese second division outfit Yanbian Funde and will provide much needed support for a Newcastle attack in desperate need of strike power.

The front man has been a regular scorer throughout his career including stints at clubs in Brazil, Japan, Korea, China and the Middle East.

Two productive seasons in Korea's K-League brought Jair to the attention of Jets officials with the marks man scoring 26 goals in 55 games.
He is sure to start the season as Newcastle's main outlet going forward with Roy O'Donovan suspended until round eight and boom winger Joey Champness ruled out until the new year with a foot injury.

Jair has arrived in Newcastle and will start training with the squad on Wednesday.
He will not take part in the Jets friendly match against Sydney FC in Sydney on Wednesday but could make his debut on September 29 in the preseason clash against Western Sydney Wanderers at Maitland Sportsground.

The Jets are also expected to confirm the signing of former Central Coast and Melbourne Victory winger Mitch Austin, with three roster spots remaining for the upcoming season.
