Newcastle marquee man Ronald Vargas has been ruled out of Sunday's home A-League clash with Brisbane due to a groin injury.
Vargas, after not completing training on Thursday, is one of two players left out of Ernie Merrick's squad to face the Roar.
Defender Lachlan Jackson (broken nose) has also been excluded, with Ivan Vujica to take his spot at left-back.
Last year's grand finalists, with just one win from six games, were comfortably beaten 3-0 last weekend by Melbourne City.
Brazilian Jair and Kaine Sheppard have both been included in a 17-man squad after missing the clash with City.
Jets' assistant coach Clayton Zane said Jair needed some extra time to overcome the hip flexor strain he suffered on a shifting surface at Spotless Stadium in the Jets' 2-0 win over Western Sydney.
"We felt another week would do him a world of good," Zane said.
"He's had that week to freshen up and we'll hopefully see him on the track and doing good things."
The Roar have named Adam Taggart (groin) and Eric Bautheac (knee), despite both picking up injuries in last week's ill-tempered 2-1 loss to Adelaide.
John Aloisi has chosen an 18-man squad for the trip to Newcastle, with Socceroos hopeful Taggart and Frenchman Bautheac both in doubt despite being named.
