SBS’s broadcast of the A-League Grand Final between Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC recorded the highest audience on record for an A-League match on the network, up 23% on last year’s decider.
The match, played at Melbourne’s AAMI Park and aired on SBS ONE, recorded an average audience of 442,000 (340,000 Metro and 102,000 Regional combined).
SBS’s audience share for the timeslot was 8.9% Metro and 5.1% Regional.
The entire 2014-2015 A-League season airing on SBS reached 5,088,000 viewers, up 23.1% on the 2013-2014 season.
The previous highest rating A-League match broadcast was last year’s Grand Final between Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers, which averaged 360,000 people (250,000 Metro and 110,000 Regional combined.)
A-League was the number one trending program on TV Twitter ratings across SBS for 17 May 2015. It attracted a unique audience of 179,800 with 2.6 million impressions.
The online stream of the Grand Final on theworldgame.sbs.com.au was viewed 12,417 times, up 328% on last year's number.
"Yesterday’s match between Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC was a highly anticipated one, it’s the oldest rivalry in A-League’s history," Ken Shipp, SBS Director of Sport said on Monday.
"We’re really happy with the audience ratings and it augurs well for future growth of the game."
