Fan killed in Argentina

A man in his forties was killed during violence between opposing fans ahead of the Argentine league game between San Lorenzo and Velez Sarsfield, emergency services announced.

Two police officers were also hurt in the disturbances.

The league match was stopped in the seventh minute due to incidents in the stands at the Jose Amalfitani stadium, home of Velez Sarsfield.

Supporters of the away team had attempted to enter the field of play after breaking down a security barrier.

San Lorenzo goalkeeper Pablo Migliore was also hit by a missile thrown by fans of the home team.

The man killed became the 252nd victim of football-related violence in the country since 1924, according to figures from non-governmental organisation 'Salvemos al futbol' (Save football).
