Experienced Eriksson eyes vacant Roar post

Brisbane Roar's search for a new head coach could reach uncharted heights with veteran Sven-Goran Eriksson reportedly ready to take over the helm.

Fresh from guiding the Philippines through their first ever Asian Cup campaign, the Sydney Morning Herald revealed the 70-year-old has formally applied for the position, made vacant after John Aloisi's decision to step down last month.

Eriksson is no stranger to Australia, having narrowly missed out on Socceroos stewardship following Ange Postecoglou's surprise resignation in 2017.

With the Swede's time in charge of the Southeast Asian nation now at an end, it is believed he would prefer an unprecedented trip down under before calling time on a glittering managerial career.

The former Sampdoria, Lazio and Benfica boss is one of two Asian Cup coaches interested in the position, with ex-India coach Stephen Constantine also in the running.

"I want to come back to club football and I know the Brisbane job is available so I'd be interested in it," Constantine told The Courier Mail.

Two-time A-League marquee and Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has also voiced his interest and will likely round out a stacked list of candidates set for club review.

Darren Davies has taken charge of first-team duties in Aloisi's absence, the interim coach winless in five matches ahead of Sunday's clash with cellar-dwellers Central Coast Mariners.
