Players from German Bundesliga side Mainz have refused to train in protest at the treatment of teammate Adam Szalai who was dropped from the first team squad and made to train alone
"The training of the professional team on Wednesday afternoon did not take place as planned," Mainz said.
"The reason was emotional discussions within the team about Adam Szalai, who was not to train with the team in the afternoon."
The club management met in the evening to discuss the incident which stems from the 32-year-old striker Szalai being ordered to train alone from Monday.
Mainz said Szalai's exclusion was for sporting reasons while Kicker magazine reported it resulted from an argument with coach Achim Beierlorzer.
Mainz lost their season-opening game 3-1 at RB Leipzig last Sunday and next host promoted VfB Stuttgart on Saturday.
