Adelaide United defender Jordan Elsey has returned to Australia after a proposed loan move to Kitchee FC in Hong Kong fell through.
Elsey was set for a stint in the Hong Kong Super League but when the 'arrival of an experienced Korean defender on trial' saw Kitchee delay securing his signature, Adelaide took the opportunity to recall Elsey.
"Jordan is a very talented young player and Kitchee had the option of an experienced Korean defender which delayed them signing Jordan," Adelaide coach Josep Gombau said.
"It was bad luck for him but in the end it is also good for us now as we need to add some depth to cover the players we have unavailable at the moment."
The unexpected return of Elsey is a boost for Adelaide, which is currently without Osama Malik (suspension) and Cassio, Cirio and Bruce Djite (all injured) while Jake Barker-Daish, Ryan Kitto and John Hall have all been selected in Australia's squad for this month's AFC U22 Championships in Oman.
