It is set to be an exciting final round of fixtures in Europe's premier club competition with spots in the knockout round on the line.

While Manchester United and Manchester City have already locked up their place in the next round of the competition, Liverpool and Tottenham still have plenty to do if they are to secure their position among the Champions League final 16.

Going into Wednesday and Thursday morning's (AEDT) matches, 12 clubs have guaranteed qualification to the knockout stage including Ajax, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Manchester City, Manchester United, Porto, Real Madrid, Roma and Schalke.

The fate of Inter, Liverpool, Lyon, Napoli, PSG, Shakhtar and Tottenham still hangs in the balance.

With Barcelona through as Group B winners, Tottenham and Inter will do battle for second spot in the group.

While Spurs go into the match in second spot on away goals, they must either beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp or at least match Inter's result against PSV.

Inter must better Tottenham's result if they are to progress.

Group C is even tighter with competition big guns PSG, Napoli and Liverpool all scrambling for the top two spots.

Liverpool are in the most precarious position of all three and must defeat Napoli at least one goal to advance.

PSG will take on Red Star in Belgrade and a win will mean they win the group. It will also means Liverpool can only finish as high as second. To do so they will need a win by a 1-0 margin or more.

If Red Star claim a draw then Liverpool can win the group with victory against Napoli.

There are a number of other exciting permutations across the other groups.

Atletico can win Group A with a win against Club Brugge or if Dortmund are upset by a struggling Monaco side. Dortmund will take top spot in the group if Madrid lose.

Bayern need at least a draw against Ajax to wrap up Group E but if the Amsterdam based side claim a surprise win then they will finish in first.

Group F looks set to be won by Man City who need only a draw against Hoffenheim, but Lyon could still take top position if they win their match against Shakhtar and City lose.

Finally, top spot in Group H is held by Juventus but Man United could leapfrog them. Juve will need a win against Swiss team Young Boys to secure their position.
