Brighton boss Hughton determined to keep Socceroos star Ryan

Brighton manager Chris Hughton has poured cold water on a January transfer move for Socceroos shot stopper Mat Ryan, declaring the Seagulls aren't interested in letting any of their players go.

Ryan was sensationally linked with a move to Manchester United to replace David de Gea if the Spaniard was to be pried away from Old Trafford in January.

The former Central Coast Mariner's goalkeeper has been one of the standout glove men in the Premier League this season and, alongside Brighton teammate Lewis Dunk, has been rumoured to be on the shopping list of some of England's biggest clubs.

However, Hughton won't let either go easily telling The Argus "it would take a very big offer for us to lose any of our players".

The Seagulls boss said he felt that inflating transfer fees would help his side retain their biggest stars

"The dynamics have changed dramatically over the last couple of seasons, in particular last season, is it costs an awful lot more now," Hughton said.

“Not just us, I think that’s everybody.

“Anybody that has a particular player they want to keep, if they don’t want to lose them then they know it’s going to have to be massive offers, certainly far bigger than in the past.

“I think that probably helps us and we’ve got a chairman and owner that wants to build, not go the other way."
