It was a stunning performance from Boyle, who opened the scoring after 25 minutes with a composed finish from nine yards out to kick-start Hibs' rout.

The 25-year-old winger had a hand in the majority of Hibernian's attack as Stevie Mallan, Emerson Hyndman and Florian Kamberi all found the back of the net in the six-goal win.

Boyle's soon-to-be Socceroos teammate Mark Milligan was also in inspired form as he lead the Hibs defence to yet another clean sheet in a brilliant 90-minute performance.

Missing out on the comprehensive win was Hibs' Australian striker Jamie Maclaren, who was battling a back injury which is set to keep him on the sidelines for up to seven weeks.

Hibernian are now second on the Scottish Premiership ladder, after eight matches, behind league leaders Hearts.

Socceroos captain-in-waiting Trent Sainsbury impressed with Eredivisie leaders PSV, playing the full 90 minutes in their 4-0 win against VVV-Venlo.

It was Sainsbury's first league start for PSV with the former Inter Milan and Central Coast Mariners central defender making a number of key interceptions in the victory.

PSV took the lead after 34 minutes thanks to Mexican rising star Hirving Lozano, before Luuk de Jong doubled the lead midway through the second half.

Erick Gutierrez made it 3-0 for PSV in the 86th minute, before Lozano wrapped up the result with his second of the night deep into added-time.

The win also featured a late cameo for Sainsbury's Socceroos teammate Aziz Behich, who was introduced to the match in the 80th minute.

Mathew Leckie has continued his comeback from injury with a second match in as many weeks for Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin.

The Socceroos winger played 16 minutes for Hertha after coming on in the 74th minute of their 0-0 draw with Mainz.

In England, it was a busy night for the Australian players in Premier League, Championship and League One action.

Aaron Mooy played 90 minutes for Huddersfield Town as they clung to a 1-1 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor.

Mooy was industrious in midfield throughout the match and created a number of chances for the Terriers.

Burnley took the lead after 20 minutes through Sam Volkes but Huddersfield found an equaliser in the 70th minute courtesy of German defender Christopher Schindler.

The result moves Mooy's side off the bottom of the ladder but they are still without a Premier League win this season after eight matches.

In the Championship, James Meredith tasted victory with Millwall as they defeated Aston Villa 2-1.

Meredith played 90 minutes in the win at his preferred left back position.

Former Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak was not in Villa's matchday squad as they slumped to defeat in caretaker coach Kevin MacDonald's first game in charge since taking over from the sacked Steve Bruce.

In other Championship action, Massimo Luongo delivered a solid 90 minute performance for QPR as they shared the points with Derby County in a 1-1 draw.

Jackson Irvine shook off injury concerns to play 80 minutes in Hull City's 1-0 loss on the road to Sheffield United.

Ryan WIllams was an unused substitute for Rotherham United as they lost 3-1 to Birmingham City, while Adam Federici also failed to see any action for his side Stoke City as they edged Norwich City 1-0.

In League One, Ryan McGowan provided an assist for his side Bradford City but it wasn't enough as they lost 2-1 to Sunderland.

It was a strong showing from McGowan, who started the match at his preferred position in central defence and played the full 90 minutes.

Kenneth Dougall played a big role in Barnsley's 4-0 win against Peterborough United.

Dougall played the full 90 minutes as Barnsley coasted to victory in the League One fixture.

Australian striker Bradden Inman also played 90 minutes for Rochdale and Cameron Burgess played the entire match for Scunthorpe United as they went down 3-2 to Luton Town.

Socceroos legend Harry Kewell has helped Notts County to their third straight win, with the Australian manager guiding the League Two side to a 1-0 win against Macclesfield Town.

The result continues Notts' recent turn of form as they climb to 17th in the standings.

It was also a big night of football for Australian's plying their trade in some of Asia's top leagues.

Connor Chapman played 90 minutes for Korean outfit Pohang Steelers as they secured a 1-1 draw against Gangwon.

Gangwon took the lead 37 minutes into the contest but were unable to hang on, as the Steelers found an equaliser early in the second half.

Australian defender Dylan McGowan was an unused substitute for Gangwon in the match.

Kwabeena Appiah played 18 minutes for K-League side Incheon United as they clinched a 2-1 win against Daegu.

And former Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar defender James Donachie was an unused substitute for Jeonnam Dragons as they beat FC Seoul 1-0.
