Aussies Abroad: Rogic leads huge night for Australian players

Tom Rogic was the big story after a big night of action for Australian players abroad with the Celtic star one of five players to open their tally for the 2018-19 season.

Rogic scored Celtic’s first goal in their 3-1 win against Livingston in the Scottish Premier League as well as playing a big part in his side’s other two.

It was an impressive return for the mercurial midfielder who has been slowly re-introduced to the Celtic starting line-up since returning from World Cup duty with the Socceroos in Russia.

The Canberra product wasn’t the only Socceroo to have a strong start to the season with a number of his Australia teammates getting their season off on the right foot in England’s Championship and League One

Bradden Inman scored a double for Rochdale in their 2-1 win against Burton Albion .

The 26-year-old opened the scoring for Rochdale after only ten minutes before doubling his tally in the 22nd minute.

Massimo Luongo played 90 minutes but was on the losing side as his QPR side went down 1-0 to Preston North End.

Ryan Williams was a second half substitute for Rotherham in their first hit out in the Championship after winning promotion from League One last season.

Kenneth Dougall tasted victory in his first match for Barnsley since making the move from the Eredivisie with his side cruising to a 4-0 win against Oxford United in League One.

Ryan McGowan was also on the winning team with his Bradford City side securing a 1-0 win, however the defender was an unused substitute.

Bailey Wright was also an unused substitute for Bristol City as they drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest.

In Germany, Kwame Yeboah made a successful start to his season with a goal in Fortuna Koln’s 2-1 win against Hallescher in the German third division.

In the German second division, Robbie Kruse 90 minutes in Bochum’s 2-0 loss to Koln.

Nikita Rukavystsya found success in Israel with Maccabi Haifa, scoring a second half goal in his side’s 3-2 win against Ironi Kiryat Shmona.

In the K-League, Connor Chapman played 90 minutes for Pohang Steelers in their win against Incheon United.

Incheon also featured former Central Coast Mariners forward Kwabena Appiah-Kubi who found the back of the net in the match.

And back in Scotland, former A-League players Ben Garrucio saw action for Hearts while Oliver Bozanic was an unused substitute in their 4-1 win against Hamilton Academic.
