Daniel Arzani made his Eredivisie debut on Saturday as FC Utrecht held VVV-Venlo to a 1-1 draw at De Koel.

The Socceroos winger came off the bench for Gyrano Kerk in the 68th-minute and showed glimpses of his quality in a 22-minute cameo.

Utrecht found themselves a goal down early in their league opener, with Guus Hupperts finding the back of the net after eight minutes.

But as both sides wrestled for superiority, it was Utrecht who struck next - Sean Klaiber on hand having pushed up from right-back.

Arzani's introduction, along with that of Netherlands international Eljero Elia, appeared to turn the tide for John van den Brom's men, but they were unable to find the finishing touch in front of goal.

Utrecht will next face RKC Waalwijk in the Eredivisie, who are set to play defending champions Ajax on Monday (AEST).
