Leckie, who grabbed the winner in Australia's 2-1 World Cup qualifying victory over Thailand in Melbourne last Tuesday, put Hertha in front against Werder Bremen with a close-range strike six minutes before half-time.
The former Adelaide United wide man has scored all of his team's goals this season and a win would have put Hertha level on points with leaders Bayern Munich,
However, Bremen hit back through Danish midfielder Thomas Delaney to grab a 1-1 draw and pick up their first point of the season.
In the Dutch Eredivisie, another ex-Adelaide man Craig Goodwin was on target to claim three points for Sparta Rotterdam.
Goodwin, who made his last appearance for the Socceroos in 2013, was on target midway through the first half to seal a 1-0 win for the his side over Twente Enschede.
