Troisi lining up possible MLS switch

Nomadic Australia attacker James Troisi is eyeing the MLS as the next destination of his much-travelled career.

Troisi's man of the match performance against Chile at the FIFA Confederations Cup last month has sparked renewed interest in the 29-year-old, who was first linked with a move to the USA 18 months ago.

A free agent after failing to come to terms over a new deal with Melbourne Victory, for whom he excelled in 2016-2017, Troisi has been holidaying this month in New York.

Simultaneously, his representatives have been actively canvassing the possibility of him writing the next chapter of his nine-club career in America.

It's a path trod with distinction by fellow Socceroo Tim Cahill, who made his mark during two seasons with New York Red Bull's, and still owns a home in the Big Apple.
While it's unlikely that Troisi  would command designated player status - the MLS equivalent of a marquee position - his qualities would clearly be of interest to a number of clubs across the competition.

Troisi was in discussions with Premier League newcomers Brighton and Hove Albion prior to the Confederations Cup but terms could not be agreed.

With his stocks on the rise again, Troisi will be keen to sort out his club future with some haste ahead of the looming World Cup qualifiers against Japan, in August, and Thailand the following month.

The MLS is home to former Melbourne City guest star, Spain great David Villa, and Italian midfield magician Andrea Pirlo (both New York City).

The competition is 19 games into the 2017 season.
