Meredith suffers Wembley despair as Millwall triumph

Australia left-back James Meredith suffered Wembley heartache as his Bradford City side went down to a 1-0 defeat against Millwall in the League One play-off final.

Steve Morison's 85th-minute winner fired Millwall into the Championship and left twice-capped Socceroos defender Meredith wondering what might have been.

The 29-year-old produced an energetic display down the left, firing one shot straight at Millwall goalkeeper Jordan Archer, seeing another effort blocked at the start of the second period and then heading a difficult chance off target as he looked to break the deadlock.

But it was Morison who would prove to be the match-winner, the veteran striker netting from close range as the game entered the last five minutes to see Millwall bounce back in style after last season's play-off final defeat to Barnsley.
Meredith, who was named in the PFA League One Team of the Year last month, is coming out of contract with the Bantams and has consistently been linked with a move to the Championship.
