The Jiangsu skipper starred in Nanjing while United turned in an impressive shift following humiliating results in the ACL this week from fellow A-League sides Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers.

The Reds held their own in the opening 10 minutes and controlled possession while keeping the home side at bay but, it didn't last long as Jiangsu nearly broke the deadlock from a Teixeira free-kick.

The Brazilian whipped in a ball from the corner of the penalty area which was partially cleared, only for Li Ang to thump the rebound against the crossbar from eight metres.

United cleared the danger but it was just a taste of what was to come from Jiangsu.

Teixiera looked a constant threat and he combined well with strike partners Roger Martinez and fellow Brazilian Ramires.

The compatriots were involved for the opening goal which arrived on 14 minutes when Ramires fired a low drive from 20 metres.

Reds keeper Daniel Margush spilled the shot which should have been a routine save, and Teixeira was on hand to tap in the rebound.

United had a decent chance on 20 minutes when Nikola Mileusnic burst down the right and supplied a cross for Baba Diawara who failed to connect with his attempted bicycle kick.

The Reds enjoyed a period of dominance after the break and Mileusnic should have equalised just after the hour but he blasted a Ben Garuccio cross over the bar from close range.

A minute later and Martinez brought out the best in Margush after forcing the young keeper to tip his shot over the bar.

Adelaide did find the net on 70 minutes but it was controversially ruled offside.

Garuccio again supplied the cross and Mark Ochieng's header fell to Tarek Elrich who hit it first time into the bottom corner but the fullback was judged to have been offside.

Almost immediately Teixeira made it 2-0 after, finishing off a swift counter as the Brazilian tore down the left flank and skipped past Dylan McGowan before firing through the legs of Margush.

Substitute Eli Babalj, in his first appearance of his second stint with the Reds, pulled a goal back in injury time powering in a header from an Elrich cross.
