Burgess, who had his Saturday afternoon free to himself after Pompey's match was postponed, took to Twitter declaring he was at a loss as to what to do with his free time.
And while the 25-year-old received all kinds of innovative ideas from fans about what in fact he could on his 'day off', Burgess selflessly decided to assist the Skilful Soccer Youth Under-12 side.
Despite reaching out to Burgess, under-12s manager Will Chitty wasn't anticipating the cheeky response he received from the Portsmouth defender.
“Christian mentioned on Twitter that he was bored and wanted suggestions, so I posted we trained at Bransbury Park at 12 noon and to get himself down there," Chitty told Portsmouth's The News.
“I thought no more of it, I didn’t think he’d read it to be honest.
“We started the session and 30 minutes in I looked up and saw him wandering over asking for ‘Will’. I didn’t know what to say!
“He was a really nice guy, fantastic with the kids, really encouraging and praising whatever they were doing."
Burgess, who has made 70 appearances in all competitions since joining Pompey in 2015, generously stayed at the training session for over an hour, before going through a Q&A session with the enthusiastic kids."They seemed to enjoy it, it was a nice surprise for them and there were some talented kids there," Burgess said.
"I enjoyed it (too) so why not do it again in the future?"
