Hot-shot Janko's Sydney FC future still in balance

On the verge of a record-breaking appearance, Marc Janko has piled the pressure on Sydney FC, indicating the ball is now in its court to secure his future at the A-League club.

Janko, who has taken the lead in the race for this season's Golden Boot with 13 goals, will break Besart Berisha's league record if he scores in a seventh straight game when Sydney face Brisbane on Sunday.

He will also equal Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero's club record of 14 goals in a season if he finds the back of the net in the Allianz Stadium encounter.

Janko has shown just why Sydney forked out $1.4 million for his services this season, but the club has yet to pen a deal with him for the next campaign.

The Austrian striker has expressed a clear desire to stay at the Harbour City outfit but says it's up to the club to show where it stands.

"I can definitely imagine myself staying here for another season or maybe longer but first of all we have to find out what the club is thinking, what the club is planning and then we can speak about the options," he said on Saturday.

"I think both parties have to express that they are willing and keen to extend but now we have to find a date when we can start the talks.

"We are open minded about everything but now it's up to them to approach us."

Sydney heads into the clash with a resurgent Roar side also hoping to equal a club record nine game unbeaten streak.
In a boost for coach Graham Arnold, midfielders Alex Gersbach and Mickael Tavares return from suspension this week while defender Jacques Faty is back from injury.

Janko says while he would love to join the likes of A-League legend Berisha and global star Del Piero, breaking records is secondary to ensuring the team's success.

"It is very good company. These guys have proven their form and their value and it's an honour to be named among them," he said.

"But for me it's not something that's very important for me. It's just statistics.

"Of course it's somewhere in my mind but my main objective is always that the teams is successful and if I can contribute with some goals then that's even better."
