Bruce favourite for Wolves job

21 February 2012-DPA

Steve Bruce is the favourite to be the next manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to the UK bookmakers.

The former Sunderland, Wigan Athletic and Birmingham City manager is now Wolves' first choice after the BBC reported that Alan Curbishley had ruled himself out of the running.

The Premier League club is looking for a new manager after sacking Mick McCarthy earlier this month.

According to the BBC, former Charlton Athletic and West Ham United manager Curbishley 'did not share the same vision for the club' as chairman Steve Morgan.

The 54-year-old Curbishley was interviewed by Wolves along with Bruce and former Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock.

But with Warnock having taken over at Leeds United, former Manchester United defender Bruce is the strong favourite to get the job.

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey had said he believed the club would have a new manager in place in time for the Premier League match against Newcastle United on 25 February.

Solbakken appointment not brave

Wolverhampton Wanderers owner Steve Morgan believes new manager Stale Solbakken has the pedigree to bring success to the midlands club and insists the Norwegian's appointment is astute rather than brave.
