Confident... Roberto Martinez believes his fringe players are capable of continuing the club's good form (Getty)
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez believes his side's Capital One Cup tie against Nottingham Forest will show the full quality of his squad as he looks to ring the changes.
The Latics beat Southampton 2-0 at St Mary's on Saturday to claim its first win of the English Premier League season and will approach the game against Forest full of confidence.
The cup clash is sandwiched between the Southampton game and another Premier League fixture at home to Stoke, and Martinez is keen to show the depth of his squad.
"We've got three games in this busy week," Martinez said after the victory at Southampton.
"You're going to see a lot of players given an opportunity to show what they can do and that is a competitive edge we have in this group.
"It's a great opportunity to share the demands.
"You've got a few players that have been working really well in pre-season and they've no reward yet and I think it's important that everyone is ready.
"It's an opportunity for some other players to show what they can do and show that they can have a massive say this season."
Martinez is likely to rest some of his leading lights but is not planning wholesale changes for the tie.
