Wellington Phoenix was held to a 1-1 draw by start-up club Western Sydney Wanderers in their pre-season clash in Christchurch on Sunday.
Wanderers pounced first in the 30th minute through the impressive Aaron Mooy's sweetly struck free-kick from 25 metres.
But former Newcastle Jets striker Jeremy Brockie continued his fine pre-season form with the leveller just after half-time.
Mooy, who stood out for Wanderers with his poise and purpose, sent his strike over the wall and past Mark Paston at the Phoenix keeper's near post.
The home side draw level when a corner was cleared only as far as Leo Bertos, who crossed for Brockie to fire past Ante Covic.
Covic then had to make another smart save to deny Brockie before Mooy claimed another free-kick, but on this occasion Paston kept it out.
Mooy then set up Mark Bridge shortly afterwards but the striker shot tamely staright at Paston.
Brockie then had a shot cleared off the line as Wellington pressed for the winner.
