Suspended ... Andrew Durante (Getty)
Wellington Phoenix will kick off its historic tour of the sub-continent in one of the hotbeds of Indian football when it faces United Sikkim on Friday.
The match will be the first between teams from the Indian League and the A-League and will be Manipur State’s highest profile football encounter.
Phoenix will be without senior trio Manny Muscat, Ben Sigmund and captain Andrew Durante who are suspended after being sent off in the fiery trial against Newcastle Jets at the weekend.
The match will be played at Imphal's main stadium which has an official capacity of 25,000 although 32,000 fans attended a recent game thanks to the step seating.
Manipur has produced many international players with seven members of the current national team hailing from the north-eastern State.
United Sikkim is one of India’s newest clubs and it made an immediate impact by winning the national second division only 14 months ago.
