Savage wants Toshack out

5 September 2010-PA Sport

John Toshack's most notorious critic Robbie Savage has called for the Wales manager to step down.

Toshack's position is under fresh scrutiny after Wales suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat in its opening Euro 2012 qualifier in Montenegro.

The 61-year-old was downbeat after the loss in Podgorica, saying his team would not 'have too much chance' of qualifying if it did not win its next game against Bulgaria.

There is no love lost between Toshack and Savage, who infamously quit international football after a row with the former Real Madrid boss five years ago.

Nevertheless, the 35-year-old has fuelled debate by calling for a change at the top.

The Derby midfielder told BBC Radio Five Live: "It is time John Toshack left Wales.

"I think we need a fresh start, fresh impetus.

"We need to get the crowds back and I think Toshack has to go.

"He has made enough excuses, he has been in the job six years.

"Judge him on his qualifying campaigns - they haven't qualified yet and they have got off to a terrible start again.

"Toshack has to go."
