Zusi goal downs Panama

Panama recorded a first-ever win over the USA in the group stage of the 2011 Gold Cup, but was unable to repeat the feat.

Zusi's close-range strike in the ninth minute decided the encounter, despite the US finishing with 10 men after Geoff Cameron was sent off in the 52nd minute for a foul on Blas Perez.

Dallas defender Zach Loyd set up the winner, the full-back's cross taking a deflection before falling to Sporting Kansas City midfielder Zusi at the back post.

Elsewhere, a late double lifted Mexico to a 3-1 win over Venezuela at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

After being frustrated for most of the match, goals from Rafael Marquez and Oribe Peralta in the dying minutes helped Mexico to their win.

Venezuela had taken a surprise lead in the 51st minute thanks to Edgar Perez Greco's well-executed diving header.

But the advantage lasted only 17 minutes as Carlos Salcido struck a powerful 25-yard drive to put Mexico on level terms.

Just as the game looked to be heading for a draw, Mexico netted twice in as many minutes.

Forward Marco Fabian's shot was parried by Jose Leonardo Morales, and Marquez was on hand to tap in the rebound on 88 minutes.

Peralta sealed the win a minute later, striking from just outside the area to send the pro-Mexico crowd into raptures.
