Portland Timbers stuns San Jose

4 July 2012-PA Sport

San Jose Earthquakes suffered its first Major League Soccer loss since May, going down 2-1 to Portland Timbers at JELD-WEN Field.

Danny Mwanga and Jack Jewsbury netted their first goals of the season to put Portland in the ascendancy, with Alan Gordon's 74th-minute consolation strike not enough to prevent Earthquakes - which headed into the match on a three-game winning streak - from slipping to defeat.

Houston Dynamo and the Chicago Fire battled out a 0-0 draw at BBVA Compass Stadium in a match where chances on goal were at a premium.

The teams managed only three shots on target between them and remained fifth and fourth respectively, in the Eastern Conference standings.
