Dutch police disperse crowd

25 October 2012-AP

Police riding horses have dispersed crowds of supporters ahead of the UEFA Champions League match between Ajax and Manchester City in Amsterdam.

Images of the police carrying out their charges in riot gear have been broadcast on Dutch television and posted to Twitter.

Dutch public broadcaster NOS reports seven men have been detained.

The area was calm again shortly afterward.

Such incidents are not rare in Amsterdam.

Earlier this year there was a nearly identical scene, including the horse-mounted police, ahead of an Ajax-Manchester United match.

In 2009 the same thing happened when Netherlands hosted England.
